I bought a laptop, Toshiba Dynabook SS 2010, and changed the OS from Windows 2000 to XP. After complete installation including the drivers, I noticed that the USB which supposed to be high speed (2) becomes low speed (1.1) when I plug-in my external hard-disk. Is anybody can fixed this problem?

Dude,

It's a driver issue, even if you are currently using a 2.0 hardware, you should update it's driver to get the maximum speed of your USB drive.

If your hardware didn't have driver CDs , try to browse for the specific model of your pc on its manufacturer's website.

Dear Vectra1123/Goma_23,
Thank you very much for your advise.
I have all the drivers of my laptop which I got from manufacturer website except
the USB which is not available. I will try to upgrade my system to Sevice Pack 2.
Thanks

you can check your BIOS settings for your USB configuration. check your laptop's manual on how to do this. now if it still does not work, you might need to install the inf utility from intel (i checked your laptop and it's using pentium iii accdg. to toshiba's website). this is assuming that you have installed the chipset drivers for your laptop correctly. inf only provides functionality for high speed usb but will not install the drivers for your chipset. so you have to check those 3 things.

btw, does it say enhanced usb controller in device manager? and you didn't mention if your hardware is also a 2.0 device. cuz if not, it would really work in a slower speed.
