mainichi The average waiting time for operations is longer than five years ago at over 30 percent of major hospitals across the country due to a shortage of doctors and an increase in patients, a Mainichi Shimbun survey has suggested. The results have raised concerns among medical experts that waiting times will be further prolonged, possibly resulting in the deaths of patients, if Japan maintains its policy of reducing medical expenses like Britain did in the 1990s.
