For those who live in the Kanto area, you might be interested in the Tokyo International Film Festival to be held from October 22 to 30, at Roppongi Hills and Bunkamura in Shibuya.
The film festival has an "Asian Winds" section, which will include three Filipino films:
Aishite Imasu 1941
directed by Joel Lamangan
starring Raymart Santiago, Jay Manalo, Dennis Trillo and Judy Ann Santos
Set in the town of San Nicolas in WW2, a transvestite has a love affair with a Japanese military officer so that he can pass information on to the guerillas. (No, sorry to disappoint you, but Juday is NOT the transvestite... :D )
Oct 22 (Sat) 13:30-15:15, Roppongi
Oct 26 (Wed) 19:00-20:45, Shibuya
Oct 27 (Thurs) 10:25-12:10, Shibuya
Panaghoy sa Suba
directed by Cesar Montano
starring Cesar Montano, Juliana Palermo, Joel Torre
Love triangle pitting Montano against a Japanese officer, set in Cebu during Japanese occupation in WW2. In Cebuano with English subtitles.
Oct 22 (Sat) 13:30-15:15, Shibuya
Oct 24 (Mon) 18:20-20:30, Roppongi
Oct 25 (Tues) 21:15-23:25, Roppongi
Minsan Pa
directed by Jeffrey Jeturian
starring Jomari Yllana, Ara Mina, Tirso Cruz III, Rio Locsin
Modern almost-love story between Jomari (who plays a Cebu tourist guide) & Ara Mina (a tourist from Manila). Jomari also acts as a pimp for Japanese tourists, thus requiring him to memorize streches for Nihongo dialogue. Dulce plays a blind singer in a cameo role. Half in Tagalog, half in Cebuano with English subtitles. For Jomari fans, he is scheduled to attend the Oct 22 screening...
Oct 22 (Sat) 18:05-20:25, Shibuya
Oct 26 (Wed) 18:20-20:40, Roppongi
Oct 27 (Thurs) 18:00-20:20, Roppongi
Since this is a film festival, there will be a 30-minute Q&A session after every screening, giving you the chance to roast the director and/or attending stars if you think the movie stinks... :D
