yomiuri Incumbent Tokyo Gov. Shintaro Ishihara was elected to a third four-year term in Sunday's election, defeating 13 rivals. In the 12 other governors' races across the nation, all eight other incumbents seeking reelection won. The 74-year-old novelist and former Diet member beat off challenges from former Miyagi Gov. Shiro Asano, renowned architect Kisho Kurokawa, Manzo Yoshida, who was backed by the Japanese Communist Party, as well as 10 other candidates. Read more...
