FILIPINO CORNERMAN ESCAPES IN JAPAN!

OSAKA, JAPAN--WBC#4 ranked OPBF light-fly champ Juanito Rubillar (42-10-7, 18 KOs), 108, a Filipino southpaw, impressively kept his regional belt by dispatching Japanese challenger Ken Nakajima (16-5, 10 KOs), 108, with a wicked body shot at 2:42 of the fifth round on Sunday (June 24) in Osaka, Japan.

On the next day a Filipino cornerman escaped prior to Rubillar group's departure from Japan to Manila . The promoter Takanobu Totsuka filed this case to the Japanese Police office for his expectedly illegal overstay and illegal work here in Japan . Such a runaway is called 'TNT' in the Philippines , and Japanese promoters and matchmakers are afraid of TNT cases happening in the future as often as previously.

The Japan Boxing Commission (JBC) makes it a rule to issue its letter of guarantee for foreign boxers or boxing people to take visas to enter this country and stay here until after the fights. It means that they are granted the visas under the condition that they are obliged to leave Japan just after their boxing activities.

It is said that, because of the difference of the currency values between Japan and the Philippines, if a Filipino person should illegally overstay and work here for three years with sending his salary to his family, he will be able to build a house because his salary will greatly balloon in local currency. It has become a social problem here that many illegal foreign workers exploit Japanese workers' jobs.

Some years ago many Filipino trainers or cornermen escaped for illegal work after fights, so the JBC inevitably made a strict decision to ban any Filipino boxers from fighting in Japan for a year. The JBC and the GAB (Games and Amusements Board; the local commission of the Philippines ) then reached an agreement that only the GAB-ranked boxers shall be allowed to fight in Japan to avoid such TNT cases in the future. Since then, no TNT happened after the ban was cleared.

There had been a goodwill move by Japanese matchmakers to ask the JBC to consider permitting even unranked Filipino boxers (8-round or 6-round boys) to fight in Japan, but this TNT case in Osaka mercilessly destroyed such a possibility. The police investigation may extend to Rubillar and his manager who already returned to Manila .

Thanks for sharing this article.

I made a thread about Filipino boxers scheduled to fight in Japan (http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=118 81), one of them
boxers is Rubillar. I was about to update that thread with the good news of Rubillar coming out of the fight as the victor making short work of his Japanese opponent on a KO win.
But then i read this news article, it really saddens me how some people dont seem to
have even the smallest concern about what consequences their actions may bring.
Filipino boxers are putting their lives at risk, representing a country, fighting hard, giving their best in order to gain respect from their competition and from those who watch them fight. They are trying to put up a good image for a country with really nothing much to be proud of especially when it comes to the sport of boxing. It is only now thru the efforts of talented boxers and their patrons that the world is starting to notice the Philippines as a fairly good source of boxing talent.

Even Japan didnt have much regard of Pinoys as good boxers, they will pick a Thai boxer
over a Pinoy boxer as a tougher fight anytime of the day, not until recently have they given Pinoy boxers credit as good choice for an opponent all factors considered.
Like what is written in the article , there was even that time when Japan banned the entry of Pinoy boxers here because many opted to runaway or hide (TNT) instead of going back home. The ban was eventually lifted and just when one think things will be getting better, here comes this smart kornerman pulling a stunt. When will we ever learn our lesson? When will we get rid of the "bahala na" attitude?
When will we start to act as a responsible citizen and realize that the actions we take as an individual on foreign land reflect the image of our country and our coutrymen?

Sad to admit, I dont see it happening anytime soon, maybe not even in this lifetime.

It's unfortunate that we have countrymen who don't value honor, dignity and even self-respect. And for what?

Seems to me in every 1 Filipino who bring honor and glory to his country and countrymen, there are 10 Filipinos who do the exact opposite.

Hmm…here we go again, stop condemning the guy already. Ginawa niya yun dahil siguro sa pangangailangan. Ganun din siguro gagawin ko kung ako nasa kalagayan niya. And if you guys don’t like it…you think he’ll give a crap on what you like or what you don’t like? Maraming TNT/ overstaying sa Japan, I don’t blame them. That guy have the guts, he took the risk. Kanya-kanya tayo ng paraan para madagdagan ng konti ang kikitain….basta’t wag lang manlalamang , magnanakaw o mananakit ng tao.

Yes probably he wont give a crap on what we think, sameway do you think he will give a crap on what you think either.?

Victimless crime? Yeah, right!

Do you preach to the TNTs’ that you meet or you know about moralidad? Pang aabuso?
Your answer would be “wala akong kilalang TNT” – of course.

Yes he will pay attention kung ano man ang iniisip ko or what I want to say lalo na pag sinabi kong kung maliligaw siya sa lugar ko, puede ko siyang kupkupin pansamantala.

Tell me….are you willing to do the same?

What ever negative things you both are saying about this cornerman applies to all the TNTs' / overstaying here in Japan. Bakit sini-sigle out yata itong isang tao.

@HENSOLDT
I wanna see you post na...."matatapang apog nila", sige nga!?

Tell me….are you willing to do the same?

Just to answer your question, i cannot say if i can do the same unless i meet the person.
And i do hope this person really meets you someday since youre so decided on what youll do, he'll be in good hands with you.
And FYI i know a lot of Overstaying pinoys here.

But i believe, this thread is NOT for that discussion, youre getting way out of line here , watch it, amigo.
Dont drag me there , read my post, try to understand it and Just stick to the topic.

While you are at it, Why not include the TNTs in the US and Europe as well.
Why this guy is singled out? is a tough question. Siguro dahil siya ang topic ng article.

Again stick to the topic

BUHAIN WARNS BEBOT ELORDE

Games and Amusements Board chairman Eric Buhain was visibly upset and embarrassed when Viva Sports/Manila Standard Today informed him that one of the handlers who went to Osaka, Japan with OPBF champion Juanito Rubillar and manager Gabriel "Bebot" Elorde Jr had not returned with the group and was believed to have gone TNT.

Buhain called Elorde and told him that the Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines was a friend and he would have Elorde, his trainers and boxers all denied visa to Japan unless the handler who went TNT, Nestor "Bong" Elorde, was "brought back within a week."

... the latest incident had "mercilessly destroyed" the possibility of the Japan Boxing Commission allowing Filipino boxers who are not ranked in the top twelve being permitted to fight in six or eight round bouts in Japan.

Mga boksingero pa rin natin ang lumalabas na talunan sa mga nangyaring ito, hindi dahil sa galing at lakas ng nakalaban kung hindi dahil sa iresponsableng aksyon ng ilang kababayan. :(

Gayunman, kudos to Comm. Buhain para sa maagap na aksyon.

Thanks for sharing max.
