I've decided to post this here at TF so that you, guys, can warn your families/relatives in the Philippines to take the necessary precautions so as not to be victimized by DUGO-DUGO GANG.
If you remember that a couple of years ago, this group had been notorious for robbing people by their MO, calling people and telling them that a member of the family had an accident and was brought to the hospital, that money was badly needed.
This time, they kinda modified the MO but still capitalizing on the shock and panic of the person who receives the call.
Here's the full story of the incident that happened to a very closed friend of mine in the Philippines who was recently victimized by the group.
Someone called their home when only the household help was around. This time, instead of the old script that my friend had an accident and was brought to the hospital, the maid was told that my friend got involved in an accident involving a colonel (or a high-ranking military official) and is being detained unless my friend pays the colonel for the supposed damages to his vehicle. She was even told that my friend was hurt so bad that she spoke with a nasal defect (ngongo). The caller even let her spoke to someone with such a condition which led her to believe that it was my friend. The maid was then instructed to gather all the jewelry in the house. She was specifically told to look for a locked cabinet. By this time, the maid was too scared to think straight and did what she was told. She was even advised to get some spare change (for my friend) and bring the jewelry to another location. The maid did so and delivered the jewelry as told.
So there, my friend lost all their jewelry, hers, her husband & daughter's.
So advise your family/relatives in the Philippines to advise their household help or any household member that if someone calls them and claims that he/she is being detained as in the case above, have them call him/her in the office or mobile phone to verify the claim.
Extra precaution is necessary. Times are hard...especially now that Christmas is approaching!
So let's tell all our relatives/families to be extra careful and vigilant... Ooppss...and also you guys out there who are coming home this yuletide season. :)
