Hi Timog pips,

hehe.. actually, we follow the basic guidelines sa kyukei naman.. we dont exceed our lunch break.. exactly 1pm kami bumabalik sa office. nakokompleto namin ang 8 hours that is for sure.
in normal circumstances (except if it is stated otherwise in a contract), tumatakbo ang oras ng overtime pay right after your 8th hour. so beyond 8 hours ibig sabihin OT na diba? in our case, there were no guidelines stated in the contract so we are following the japanese labor standards guideline.. and in this guideline nakalagay nga na after 8 hours ng work, at nagwork ka pa beyond that period, eh zangyou na..
weird lang kasi tong shachou namin.. he mentioned that in Japan, zangyou means that you have be there in the office and not leave your station (kahit na gusto mo kumain, d pwede, well unless you have some ramen in your bag or something) at magwork nang magwork. medyo naweweirdohan lang ako.. maybe this is the japanese definition of OT.. pero it looks really unfair..

I get your point, since you are working here in Japan, you should follow what your boss should remind you, unless na panggigipit na talaga.SOP naman talaga na dapat sundin ang ang labor standards ng host country na pinapasukan mo kahit na hindi naka indicate sa contract na pinirmahan mo!Paalala ko lang po sa mga baguhan pa lang sa Japan, kumain lang po tayo during our break time para walang masabi ang ating amo!:)

yeah, that is exactly my point. He would always say 'nihon dewa...' blah blah.. he also never did ask us if we want to do overtime.. minsan nagbibigay sya ng very tight schedule na shoganai na kelangan na minsan magovertime..hay..
I know this is out of the topic but just want to share some of those 'nihon dewa..' lines of our shachou. Then he asked us if he has the right to get angry.. (he always gets angry anyways). I explained him that in the Philippines, it doesnt mean that he is being made a laughingstock. It means that the person is very embarrased of what he did that he ended up smiling about it. I think he was really offended by it.. but then again one sided sya kasi it was not meant to make him feel bad.
If I am wrong to assume these things, hope someone will enlighten me up. :D

Hindi puede pa-pogi or pakanta-kanta or siyete, or lamya-lamya, ngingiti pa pag nag-kamali sa opisina. Very unlikely sa Japanese ang ngumiti pag nagkamali, usually bow to death sila sa paghingi ng sorry or mag-resign if major mistake. Kahit nga sa picture or id or driver's license bawal ngumiti or ipakita ang ngipin. lol
Never heard nga naman dito ang uuwi para kumain tapos babalik, and then counted as overtime. Yes po, the world is not fair. Pero malay mo merit-wise eh marecognize ang efficiency and efforts mo.
Pero kung malakas ang loob mo, or handa kang mag resign or ano pa mang consequences, eh, magreklamo ka sa Labor Office, if you know your rights.
Gambatte Kudasai!!!
