hi, everyone.

I'll be heading off to Sendai for a short trip and would just like to ask some recommendations about possible places to visit and things to do around the area.

like, I'm told Matsushima (日本三景の一つ、nihon sankei no hitotsu; it's one of the most scenic spots in Japan along with Itsukushima in Hiroshima and Amanohashidate in Kyoto) is accessible from Sendai so I hope to go over and see it.
any other tips or suggestions?

if possible, I would welcome some first-hand info, based on actual experience (no links to Net sites, please. I can check that out on my own:D)

よろしくお願いします。

whenever we go visit my husband's hometown, which is north of sendai, we never fail to buy "kamaboko" at the expressway rest stop in sendai. we especially like the kanezaki brand. very tasty!

as for places and things to do, sorry i don't have any personal recommendations, since we always forego roaming around the place.

enjoy your trip and have fun!
and don't forget to bring a thicker jacket.
it's a bit cold up north.

I'm ready to bring some of my thicker sweaters and jacket I usually reserve for 真冬 in Tokyo;)

any other tips, anyone?

hi twinkyblue.

am on a tight budget so it's the yakou (night) bus for me. would've loved to take the Shinkansen though:D

the bus leaves Tokyo station about 8:30 and should be in Sendai about 5:00 AM, I'm told.

Ohh.. talaga. That's quite a long trip. But I think hindi mo na sya mapapansin dahil tulog ka ano.hehe..

Are you travelling alone? How long would you be there?

I am interested kasi in different places in Japan. If chances permit me, gusto ko sana sila puntahan..hehe..

hello, twinkyblue.

I read your message, thanks.
I'm just back from Sendai.
my friend made a mistake with the schedule.
our bus tour group converged in Shinjuku at 10:30, but we dropped by Tokyo station to transfer to the bus which would take us to Sendai.

we left Tokyo station a little before 12, and with only two 15-minute pit stops, we made it to Sendai at 4:55. which means, the trip was just about 5 hours.
I wasn't really able to sleep since it was a regular bus, but I think if you can take the bus with the separate reclining seats (called dokuritsu seki type), you should be able to get some real shut eye during your trip.

I traveled with a friend and although we planned to stay in Sendai the whole long weekend, I had to come back early to get some work done:p

I've actually been to a number of places around Japan already (Hokkaido and Shikoku are still on my must-see list;)) and I would recommend you to visit Sendai, but especially Matsushima which is along the Miyagi coast.

as I mentioned in a different post, it is considered one of the top scenic spots in Japan and I believe it deserves to be called such. the natural beauty of the place is just amazing and its tranquility really beckons one to relax and just drink in the beauty and serenity of the place. the food, especially the gyuutan and kaki (or good old lengua and oysters), is also tops!:D

katheyrine,

thanks for the advice.
I really enjoyed my trip. sana makabalik:)

you mean the orugooru (music box or orgel) museum, right? actually, I feel any tourist spot you go to in Japan, you're bound to find a place featuring music boxes;)

I really wished I had visited an onsen in Miyagi, but my friend still hasn't learned how to appreciate sharing a hot tub with strangers, hehehe:D

and yes, Date Masamune was the local daimyo, or feudal lord in Miyagi who was blind in one eye. sinilip lang namin ang museum nang saglit, kasi atat na atat na yung kaibigan kong makakain ng lengua nun.

I won't resist a chance to go on a food trip in a place like Hokkaido :food:
