According to an article (http://bcnranking.jp/news/0711/071108_8930.html) by Business Computer News, a Japan-based content provider, Mac OS 10.5 code-named Leopard has taken a big piece of the market share over all OS sales in Japan after it went on sale last October 26, and is still on the lead as of today. (http://bcnranking.jp/category/subcategory_0073.htm l) "This groundbreaking initial velocity for a Mac OS adoption is a first in Mac's history", added the report.
The reasons for this great leap, the article noted, was first the simplicity of Leopard's pricing strategy compared to Vista's overly-complex pricing scheme, not to mention Vista's general priciness compared to the cat. The second has got to do with Apple's strategy of releasing a new OS in a faster phase.
