Maganda ang boses nya. I listened to both renditions of the song "Faithfully" by the original singer, and that of A. Pineda's. Mas maganda ang boses ni Pineda, soulful.

Sana, matanggap sya ng mga fans ng "Journey Band", kasi nabasa ko na may mga umangal na mga fans na puti, questioning kung bakit si A. Pineda ang pinalit. He won't do justice daw. Sabi ng isang friend ko, buhay pa ba raw ang "Journey Band" kasi, noong unang panahon pa raw sila.

I wish him good luck, and sana kumita ang album nila this year with him as the lead singer, if only to prove the old and younger fans wrong.

I hope he'll last just as long as the original Journey members do. They are nearing their 60s already and given perhaps a few more years they may just call it quits and retire. But i just got hold of the Chile concert music and have been listening to it over and over imagining that the singer is Steve Perry. Arnel comes close to Steve's voice (except for the accent) but several times cracked when hitting the high notes. I'm looking forward to buying the next journey album with Arnel as lead.

arnel is the 3rd vocal replacement of this band after perry called it quit decades ago.. and they all have the same reasons... they all have throat problems (thats what they say) but some believes that its neil, the guitar player, decides for it...

there are only 2 original members on this band...

May nabasa akong article na dapat pala si HUGO ng FRONTIER BAND ang ipapalit kay JEFF SOTO..Actually nag audition na si HUGO noong July then sinabi sa kanya ni Cain(keyboard) na Welcome to Journey! syempre umasa naman itong si HUGO tapos ilang araw lang tinawagan sya ng Journey management para sabihin hindi pa iyon confirmed...para kasing gusto ni Cain si HUGO pero still naghahanap parin si Neal(he want something new in NEW JOURNEY)...so tumawag daw si HUGO kay Cain kung anong nangyayari...Sinabi lang ni Cain na sya parin ang nangunguna sa pagpipilian...habang nagsusulat o gumagawa ng kanta itong si Neal naisip nyang mag search sa YT kaya ayun nakita nya na nga ang ating fafa ARNEL:D

Well, it looks like the first report, anyway... probably because there ain't no free WiFi anywhere around the Strip, so no one here is posting... haha! Hell, this place will take you from every angle if you don't watch out!

So here it is -- Saint John, Rhiannon and txfirefighter (from MelodicRock) and a few others of us finagled our way into the Journey show at the private RE/MAX convention (how I personally got in is a story in itself, but it only cost me $20!). I was just a little late and missed the first few songs, but was amazed at how many people were there -- a very nice arena at the MGM with a great crowd, and plenty of standing room on the floor. Within only a few minutes, and without any problems, I was standing 4 feet right in front of Arnel! They were filming for the DVD that night, too, and also are doing this on the 8th.

Let me tell ya, hands down, Arnel sounded FANTASTIC, and didn't appear nervous in the least. Great stage presence and crowd interaction, and he really seemed to be comfortably sinking into his new element. I got several cell-phone pics and short video clips that I hope to post soon. Rhiannon and txfirefighter were having fun interacting with Arnel during the songs, and Rhi got to shake his hand. Right at the end he threw out an orange RE/MAX tie into the audience, and I was an inch away from catching it! I later tried to get the girl who did to sell it to me, but no dice -- she wanted to keep it. No guitar picks on the stage either, and none taped to the mic stand. Where does Neal keep them? lol...

After the show, we hung out for a while in the casinos. There were several of us, including Dan, Rhiannon, Gayle, Frank Martinez, Journeygirl, and others whose screen names I didn't get. One of the mods here was there, too. Very cool group of folks, and quite a few of them got a kick out of meeting "The Dokken Guy"...

Neal's been in the business for 39 years and to see him stop on stage, put his guitar by his side, and give Arnel a hug during a song was really cool. Straight from a band member's mouth..."We're playing FOUR new songs tomorrow night." I'll be back with a full report when I can. I heard part (30 seconds) of one of the new songs. Jaw dropping vocals. Very Frontiers-era sounding. Partied with Frank Martinez, WIX, Maui Tom, T-TIME, , and a host of others. A seemless, drama-free rocking time between MR and Back Talk people. Just a bunch of fans having a great time that are lucky enough to still call an awesome band a relevant part of our lives. Our bar bill the first night was OVER a thousand dollars...for 7 people. AP have sung songs of other singers but again it's not necessarily that he wanted to thrive on being a copy cat, even great singers at one time sung songs that don't belong to them but they aren't necessarily copy cat. Journey continues to sing the "Steve Perry" songs because those songs are not exclusive the Perry alone, they belong to Journey and they are the band's legacies. Anyone who gets to be their lead singer is original, since the band itself is original, and if AP sings the Journey songs, his voice becomes the original journey music because he now belong to Journey. Even Steve Perry sung the songs that was created even before he became their lead singer. hope you dig what i meant here. and journey is due to release new original tracks that have AP as the lead singer. now i doubt if anyone can say that's being a copy cat."

"Here with a report.. uhhh it's 6:00 in the morning and Me, my brother, Gayle, Melissa, and Lynn all just got back from grabbing a bite to eat. I honestly don't know how I'm even typing right now, but I'll do my best.

This whole trip is coming to an end and it really sucks to see everyone go. This had to be the craziest and funnest time you could ask for. Def. the coolest people you could ever meet in a lifetime. Very entertaining and jaw dropping experience with these guys (and gals.) Ttango,Maui Tom, Gayle, Melissa, Deano, TIME, St.John Rhiannon, Rick, Rokken, Gator, the list goes on...thanks for the great time, never will forget it.

Let me get to the concert. I'm sure this is speaking for about everybody since everyone had the same reaction coming out of the gates. Arnel is a madman. Plain and simple. He was all over the place, stage presence was one thing, but the singing of the songs just blew everybody out of the water and it showed as the packed house went in a frenzy. He hit virtually every note in every song tonight, the only iffy part was 2 notes at the end of DSB where he kind of went a tone down and sounded like his voice was dry. Other than that, dead fuckin' on.

I was shocked to hear they threw in Faith in the Heartland, surprising to most of us sitting there, sounded excellent.

The new songs was the icing on the cake. Pure rock n roll. The first ballad they did was just WOW. The energy with these newbies are really action packed with good vocals and lyrics. People didn't take these songs to go for a bathroom break, they were that good.

My throat was shredded on the 2nd song, (Only the Young) and its starting to set in now.

Deen sang After the Fall behind drums. Everyone knows what to expect from him...golden.

After the show they had 2 encores, and re-singing faithfully. Be good to yourself and Lovin touchin squeezin was the closers. They also came back out and sang a new song towards the end, so they came out back out a couple times. Crowd ate it up.

I think it's safe to say Journey found the right man. Plus the way they interact on stage, they seem like teenagers out there.

After the show the gang met at Hearts Bar, and Ross met with and partied with us mainly all night. Crazy Mofo, outgoing and just out there. Fans loved him.

Me and Time got on stage and received a drumstick from Deen, very cool.

The DVD and CD will both be released as a double disc set in June so we all should be stoked about that. Really put there foot in the ground and let us know they are here to stay. This could get better. As for now, I'm hitting the sheets..Plane out at 12:00!

REVELATION should bookmark one of the most challenging chapters of Journey’s legendary career. Instead, the new album offers a lasting testament to Journey’s legacy, and a striking glimpse of their brilliant future.

The first album with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, REVELATION is Journey running on no less than twelve cylinders, a fine-tuned offering that sounds every bit like a band hitting their stride. Yet Pineda hadn’t even joined the band when the album’s first songs were written in mid-2007, and founding guitarist Neal Schon is quick to admit, it wasn’t always easy to stay optimistic when the band wasn’t sure what the future held.

“I was getting frustrated with not having a singer, but still wanted to move forward and knew that we had a big year in front of us. There were times I got frustrated, but I never lost hope,” recalls Schon. “I wanted a guy that could convey the classic songs with a similar texture to his voice, and a tenor voice, but someone who puts his own spin on it. Which is exactly what Arnel does.”

Pineda’s discovery is already etched into Journey’s lifelong musical history, as Schon scouted literally hundreds of singers via online video website YouTube before finding the band’s new frontman. “When I heard Arnel, I knew I had found our singer and immediately called management,” says Schon. “Next, I call Cain. And before we knew it, Arnel was on his way to the U.S. to audition. By the third day of full rehearsals with the band, it was a slam-dunk. Then, we proceeded into the studio where Arnel sang six Journey songs in one day. He sounded simply amazing. I looked at Cain and said, ‘there he is. This is our guy.’" Cain agreed.

Between the two of them, Schon and Cain penned all 11 of the new tracks on REVELATION. There is no lack of chemistry in Journey, beginning with the songwriting core of Schon and Cain. “I felt strongly about moving forward and writing new material. It was time,” Schon states. Schon then put the call into Cain and started the song writing process which has now become the album, REVELATION. “There’s an innate trust and respect for what we each do as we weave our way through this music,” says Cain. Schon adds, “In the alphabet, I might be a Z and Jonathan the A, that’s just how opposite we are musically sometimes. I write mostly rock and Jonathan writes most of the ballads, but when you combine the chemistry of us together, you’ll find that it is the nucleus and sound of what is and has been Journey. And now, with the right voice in place, we have all the right ingredients.” Cain adds, “We’ve been doing this for so long together, we both know what we want to hear, and we both know what works for the band.” Neal agrees. “By now I think we should be able to do it in our sleep.”




“Never Walk Away” kicks REVELATION off with the resilient air and upbeat optimism fans have come to expect from Journey, a melody-soaked and guitar-driven anthem sure to ignite the live circuit just as it lights up the new release. The heartwarming sentiment offered by “Like a Sunshower” gives a more poetic and reflective look at relationships. It’s an uncharacteristic ballad from the more hard rock-inclined Schon. There’s even an instrumental, “The Journey Revelation),” at the request of Producer Kevin Shirley, who returns to the fold after working with the band on TRIAL BY FIRE (1996) and ARRIVAL (2000), the band’s first instrumental since DEPARTURE (1980) and EVOLUTION (1979). “This is a special song for me,” Schon says of the sprawling track, “it was extremely gratifying to express myself on my instrument in this way.” This is a great performance from everyone in the band and truly a majestic track.

Lead singer Pineda still does plenty of head turning of his own throughout the new recordings, as well as the 11 classic hits that the band re-recorded as the second disc of the three-disc set. The third disc is a live concert DVD, Pineda’s fourth show with Journey, recorded in Las Vegas in March 2008.

“It’s so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world,” says Pineda. “It’ll be a lot of hard work on my part, and I’m actually looking forward to the scrutiny I’ll get from the hardcore Journey fans. I know they’ll expect me to sound exactly like ‘the voice,’ but that will never happen. I know there’s only one Steve Perry in this world.” While that may be the case, Pineda breathes new life into the band’s heralded catalog, from the soaring stretches of “Only The Young” and the full vibrato that introduces the small town girl and city boy from South Detroit in “Don’t Stop Believin’,” to the pristine tones of “Open Arms” and “Faithfully” and the driving rhythm of “Separate Ways.”

“Not only he can cover our old material, but he’s such a diversified performer that it leaves everything wide open to where we can go,” marveled Schon of his new singer. “He’s got tremendous abilities and he’s an outstanding performer, which people will soon find out.”

Not to be outdone, every member of Journey shines on REVELATION. Cain’s keyboards elevate “After All These Years” to new emotional heights. “What I Needed” is a power ballad, driven by heavy guitars, reminiscent of the early Journey that so many bands have modeled themselves after. Deen Castronovo drums up a frenzy during the hard-driving rock song, “Wildest Dream.” The talented Castronovo also sings most of the high harmonies heard throughout the album, proving that not only is he an amazing drummer, but he’s a dynamic vocalist as well. Schon’s smoking guitars rip through this track with a cool, eastern flavor. Bassist Ross Valory is steady throughout, a stabilizing force through the albums more driven highs and heartfelt lows.

Actually, parehong boses ni AP yun...just goes to say that he's not imitating SP. AP has his own range and depth that's powerful and soulful. Si SP medyo mas mataas ang boses na simple.

Naisahan sila nung Radio staff lol, and yung SP fans na mismo ang nagsabing hindi si SP yun. They may not admit it but they unconsciously just acknowledged that AP has his own identity and not a copycat. Well, yes, he was inspired by the Journey band, their songs, and singing them in his own distinct natural voice doesn't make him an impersonator...:)

"Was listening to talk radio in my car coming home from work today. Commercial break, suddenly AWYWI comes on. I was shocked for a few seconds, the vocals doesn't sound anything like SP on record:eek:. Then, the voiceover makes the announcement that Journey is playing a summer concert at "Harvey's at Lake Tahoe, July ___ ." A few more song clips ... "A smalltown girl, in a lonely world" ... was one, don't remember the other. Also mentioned Heart and Cheap Trick (played their clips, too). But, definitely, Journey seemed like the headliner as the main focus was on them in the commercial spot.

Afterwards, I was talking to another Journey fan in my town. He said he heard the radio commercial, too, on another station. So, it appears they are really going all out, with the marketing and promotional push. Commercial spots all over radio 3 months in advance? We hardly heard anything about it when Journey/DL played Reno in 2006.

Getting back to the little asserts of Arnel singing. For sure, it was taken from the re-records. They sounded different, somehow, from the original:cool:. Dare I say --sharp-- and Arnel didn't sound like SP at all.:p It was strange listening to another voice singing those songs like that on radio.:confused: Alluded to by HH in his interview, I guess the band/Shirley must have updated the sound, with today's technology. Kafatid, baka matuloy ako sa concert for July,, pero I checked the tickets, yung sa pinakamalapit, "pit" or "center", eh from 400-700 usd lol halos konti na lang tickets na natitira, baka kahit sa malayo na lang :D
