View Full Version : Freedom of Expression
"The right of everyone to hold opinions without interference, as well as the right to freedom of expression, including the freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art or through any other media of their choice."
Are there any right or wrong forms of posting a question in this forum? Do you have to be particular about words to use and in which manner that you have to post a thread? Do you feel there are certain limititations when it comes to posting a particular question? Do you think you have exercised your right to freedom of expression in this forum? Does it serve its purpose?

I have a very akward feeling that this thread is soooooooooooo trite. :)
well, i guess you have just started it right... criticism is a form of freedom of expression... now, let's go back and focus on the questions...
Hello troy387. :)
Freedom of expression (according to your definition) does not exist in Timog Forum. We did not create this website because we wanted a place for Filipinos in Japan to "express themselves" regardless of what other people think. We made Timog Forum because we wanted a medium by which Filipinos in Japan can help each other (like by translating stuff and answering questions for example), where they could share experiences (and pictures) and opinions about a large variety of subjects.
A lot of people have the mistaken notion that because Timog Forum is a "forum" they can say whatever they want in this website (in any form, with any choice of words), i.e. they have a limitless "freedom of expression". For one thing, there are many things that are not permitted in Timog Forum, like text speak, or using languages other than English, Japanese or Tagalog.
A healthy, polite exchange of opinions is good, and is welcome in Timog Forum. What we especially don't like here are heated arguments about inane subjects that don't add any value to the forums at all. Unwarranted personal attacks against other people (with or without profanities) will likely get a member banned from this website.

I respect what you said & your goal in Timog Forum. But sometimes you can't control such heated arguements especially if you have been attack over & over again. We are all human & we have feelings. If somebody got offended or took the post too personal then it is her/his problem because in the first place I have no intention of attacking fellow Timog Forum Members here. I register here & become a member because I was happy to found a site like this on the web, I want to share my thoughts, experiences or if something is bothering me I might be able to share it with other friendly people.
I must admit some people are annoying & I know I can't please everybody.
More power to TF & to you Sir Nick ! Mabuhay Ka :wavey:
i fully understood and have agreed with the terms and policies of this website. but what led me to this thread is that i have noticed in other threads posted in this forum several heated arguments from the members. there were word fights and verbal attacks which is not at all pleasing to the eyes. i believe that the main purpose of this website is to seek and acquire information and ideas about certain issues that at anytime boggles our mind. but there are those who are so vocal about their opinions that sometimes doesn't at all help with the main discussion. maybe they just want their presence to be recognized by showing off their prowess in communication or maybe just to gain seniority level and respect from other forumers which seem to be very contradicting to what is happening.
now i would like to pose a question, in what grounds does a member be banned from this website? my apology but haven't checked whether there are implementations from the operator regarding this matter. thanks.
Wala pang naba-ban sa Timog Forum, pero meron nang muntik na. Siguro after repeated warnings are ignored puwede kang ma-ban. Or extremely irritating attitude siguro. Hindi namin gustong mag-ban ng member sa Timog Forum (masyadong harsh) at last resort na lang iyon kung wala nang puwedeng gawin para lang maayos ang Forum.

can a member make recommendations to ban another member from posting to a particular thread once proven unbecoming and irritating?
Sure, lahat ng members welcome to contact the Admins and Moderators about other members or posts in the forum.

I believe that all of us, from the first moment we first learn the word freedom as child, up to present age or now we are considered as matured…, has encountered many conflicts and endeavors to clearly understand freedom.
I respect freedom.
As human who has spirit(in my humble opinion), we feel that we don't like to be bounded in any way or any form. But in any rate, we should also realize and accept that we have a body/form and we are part of a certain unit/place/atmosphere/world to whatever context of plane you wish to agree on. Plus the element of time to consider..
I believe “Freedom entails responsibility”. Because we are existing in a particular unit, etc. and not alone. Thoughts and actions,/ your desire and result are considered as one and comes together, like the mind and the body or cause and effect. That’s is why even if no one sees us or we are alone, still we consider and should respect the rule/laws/conscience that abound us. If we are going to good direction, we shall reach to good result. If we do not, then it is assumed that we are pursuing the other side of the coin…No rules, no obligations, then you may think you are right, but truly you are standing on the wrong place. You will feel and surely complain you are oppressed. But you have to realize and open your eyes. that you are the one doing the oppression or wrong action. Its like enjoying your home, telling your servants what you want or what to do. Then you realize you are on the wrong household. Jokingly said in parables or kawikaan by some elderly people,” Palibhasa raw kuba, walang magawang matwid”, ha,ha,ha! I meant no offense to anyone, OK?
Rule of thumb I learned from our elders. Before we do something, we should verify this few things if:
1) Are the purpose, motive, and direction are all OK/right?
2) Is it the right time, Am I in the right place and around with the right people?
If the answer satisfy you or the answer is good. Then we can go on, in order.
Thanks again Mr Nick and moderators for continuesly clarifying the TF rules. Pasensya na, at kami ay madalas makalimot. Salamat sa paalala.

I agree with my fellow furry friend. And Stacie Fil, nicely put.
I have been noticing some posts or threads that definitely are out of bounds when it comes to the house rules. I have actually been quite disappointed by the lack of social skills of some of the posters old and new. It's good to know that there are people like the big Mushroom Eater in the sky and our friend Mr Flower Power to remind us of the basics of civility.
Hopefully these people will understand that hiding behind a computer screen does not mean that they can act however and post whatever they like.
i am more impressed by the objectives of this website. they have truly contributed enormous assistance within the Filipino Community in Japan. i commend you guys for the job well done!
although i consider myself a neophyte in this forum, i have meticulously noticed some of the members even senior members allow themselves to ignore the rules set by the administrators. i am grateful to note that this website has clearly posted a precaution among the members to give at least special consideration to the new members in certain matters for an obvious reason. however, there are some but not all, particularly the old members, who showed nothing but arrogance and sarcasm to the new members instead of hospitality which i am deeply astonished.
this thread for that matter, if we could scroll back, the first reaction from the member doesn't sound so polite. we know that it has been stressed in the TF rules the act of politeness must be practice in dealing with other posters. and if you could also notice, there was even a preceeding comment from the same source that express sarcasm. that alone is a bad image among the law-abiding members to the new comers and visitors. you won't be surprised to encounter a new member behaving the same attitude in this website due to the abuses committed by some of the old members.
Summer!

You're right, taki. May mangilan-ngilang mga members ang nagpapakita ng rudeness and sarcasm hindi lang siguro sa mga new pero sa iba pang members maybe just to show off, o baka para lang magpapansin, o baka gustong maging bida. We don't know. Parang nanadya na lang ba. Pero hindi siguro na natin maaalis yang ganyang ugali sa kahit na anong uri ng kapaligiran, sa trabaho, sa school, sa forum na ito, etc. These are unfortunately inevitable in almost any society. Either you confront or you ignore them. It's your choice. I can only wish that these people somehow change or just simply be sensitive somehow on other people's feelings. :) Para lahat masaya, di ba.;)

Im trying to understand your sentiments, but it seems Im being fooled by your signature. I dont meant to be harsh but one thing I learned, as I may share, is that life isnt fare. It should be in the first place, for we all pay a price. But as we know, not all things grow good or as we wish it should be. Aside the facts that all of us are tainted with unlikely things we see in daily life. Its been part of our lifelong story and its difficult to shrug it off, just like that...Not all leaf grows at the same speed, in the same branch, at a same lenght.
I can only suggest to keep your patience and understanding ready at all times. Learn to filter and get only what you think is needed or has value.Don't be influenced. We have our own decision and remorse, be careful what you are making.
Smile...

That's right, ms. summer. the best thing we can do is just to ignore this kind of people who definitely lacks attention (KSP). There's no hope that we, fellow members, can change them... nor confront them co'z they will only listen to themselves. Let them make their own self-realization. They are the only one's who can change themselves. We just have to focus on whatever topic or issues that needs to be discussed and continue giving our insights politely and in a more civil manner. I am glad that there are many of us here who are one in this objective.

Polite is a very stiff word. :) My response wasn't exactly polite in its strictest meaning, I agree. But I think the most appropriate word is informal. And I don't think I need to be very formal when my purpose is to have a very open and a no holds barred exchanges of opinions as long as you don't call people names and much less degrades people. And before I forget, my earlier responds are more on a friendly tone than impoliteness. Our penchant for melodramatic temperament is what stops us to learn more and to get on with times.
Peace everyone:)

gabby... gabby... gabby... how could you say "soooooooooo trte" quote and quote is just informal to you? was it not an impolite gesture? or even the rudest and the meanest response? i just don't really know why only your brains are working so well while your etiquette are becoming so obsolete. maybe you need to change your approach this time big bro.

Nice thread Taki San;)
Well said Nick San & Reon San:)
Pa OT Taki San..., like what happened sa isa kong thread .
...so naging issue tuloy..
kaya sa tingin ko..okey lang kahit ano pang opinion yan "Pro" ka man o "Hanti pa" , basta in a Nice Manner , Acceptable wordings o hindi masakit sa tenga basahin.. , at wag masyado "ERASO" yung dating, at dapat Everything must be in Moderation ika nga.....kase we`re here in TF to meet new friends, to learn at mag-enjoy hindi para mangHumiliate o manakit ng kimochi ng iba o mandegrade in whatever manner pa yan.
