Kaya ang daming hindi nagsucceed sa business sa atin dahil puro gaya-gaya. We lack diversity in our business atmosphere.

Stop the gaya-gaya attitude. Create something new. Be different and stand out from the crowd.

I believe this has something to do with our culture. there is an existing thread about Japan being the most masculine country in the world. hindi ito tungkol sa pagkalalaki nila but rather it points out that the men here feel more superior which explains why a lot of Japanese guys are chauvinists.

anyway, regarding originality, according to Dr. Hofstede's study, in the Philippines our individualism, uncertainty avoidance index as well as our long term orientation are low. these factors I think contribute to lack of originality.

I've also read a lot of comments here regarding Filipino's not having long term goals. surprisingly, mababa nga talaga sa Pinas. we have this "ok na yan, pwede na yan" habit. we're also usually content with just a simple life.

these are the sites where you can compare the results of Dr.Hofstede's study on cultural dimension. if you look at the chart of Japan, their long term orientation and uncertainty avoidance are very high. i guess that explains why a lot of Japanese don't change jobs. gaya nga ng sabi nila, they have long term plans. some of my students have told me that their parents would like them to work for a stable company rather than start their own company. it shows that they're really careful and they avoid uncertainties.

if you look at the US, the individualism is extremely high. as we all know, they're very expressive. they want to express themselves in whatever way they want to. their long term orientation is also low. it's a fact that Americans change jobs because they're looking for greener pastures.

it's a very interesting study which I think can be helpful if you want to start a business involving other countries. :D
