I've met a lot of CHOBET trainees too through some of the seminars I've led. This one in the workshop series could help a lot of trainees strengthen their skills as "teaching" requires more than just little training. Some of the CHOBET ladies have joined my 3-month seminar/ one-week seminar/ Intensive One-day seminar too, and still are attending and collecting certificates to make themselves more competitive. Hope you could come. Contact Evelyn Asaka, the FETJ organizer to make sure you reserve your place as the venue could just accommodate 20 to 30 people.
If the map doesn't get posted here, you may visit
hbinterface.com
to view the map later.

If there will be interested parties who can organize themselves in at least 10-member group, I could travel for FREE to conduct FREE seminars around Japan starting September, 2008. For now, I could travel only within Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa. I've been applying for some support from a USA NGO organization who could help me with my RAINBOW project (connected as well to my Temple Graduate research) of reaching out to so many Filipinos wishing to be English Teachers. That way, trainees don't need to pay fees or shoulder any of my travel expenses. My project aims to improve the lives of Filipino women here in Japan especially, through ELT training and workshops. Everyone knows the necessity for us to elevate our status in our current society. If you are interested, post additional inquiries here, or contact me directly at

Thanks, eigooshiero...you're right. CHOBET and FETJ have been very active in helping our fellow Filipinos become English teachers. In FETJ, it was a few years back (maybe 3 yrs or 4 yrs ago?) when Aurora , Evelyn, I and the other 12 ladies formally started FETJ, we had so much dreams for our fellowmen living in Japan. We're glad you are there CHOBET to regularly support the teachers that Aurora and I could not always meet. Aurora is now back in the Phil. fo further studies, so I'm filling up the vacuum in the FETJ workshop series. Hope you could encourage your troop flock to Omiya again as you always do. See our pictures in the May seminar/workshop I led at hbinterface.com with the trainees sharing some activities. THIS MARCH, I WILL AGAIN LET EVERYONE SHARE THEIR IDEAS AND TECHNIQUES to the whole group. Our topic for March is "SONGS AND CHANTS in Classroom Activities"; How these songs and chants could serve as main texts in the teaching of content; e.g. one song could be transformed into several types of cognitive and context-providing experiences for the kids. The lessons of course, will have corresponding theory, principles and methodology connection to remind mentors of the logic of performing the classroom activities. All interested ladies and gentlemen...see you there!
PS. My ambitious NGO ---RAINBOW organization for Migrant Women in Japan in connection with my regular project HBINTERFACE.COM will be launched in September to be based in Kawagoe, Saitama. The Rainbow programs will attempt to offer services for FREE ranging from TESL, High School Review (Preparation for the HS Exam in the Phil. Embassy) , TOEIC, TOEFL Review and Basic Computer Studies.

Ibaraki (and other kanto prefectures) would be fine too starting September ( if you wish to have your 2-day seminar soon, from June I could schedule an intensive one for you). At the moment, I can't give you a definite date yet (as I'd have to wait for my Summer Studies sched. as well). Meantime, list down the names of your prospective participants, topics request, and venue/date (if possible, Saturday-Sunday) plans.
For individual/ small group urgent requests, I could be contacted for a twice-a-month video-conference-type meeting (haha, I haven't tried this online style actually) but I'm willing to help on my free time and week-day availability (I'm this kind , you know :D). I say, I'm not an expert...but I have more than 20 years of English teaching experience (ahermn) ...overwhelming and tiring...that I need to share to some people requesting for my little help.
Mabuhay ang mga Pinay teachers! Kaya natin to! Pasukin natin mga eskuelahan dito. Pinays are the best teachers.

JUST REMINDING THOSE WHO ARE PLANNING TO JOIN the seminar for FILIPINO ENGLISH TEACHERS IN JAPAN...
The Seminar will be held this Sunday, March 16,2008 from 2 to 4:30 PM in Omiya at Sakuragi Kouminkan, Fifth Floor. It's a big building. (See map at www.hbinterface.com (http://www.hbinterface.com) )
Door opens at 1:30, seminar proper starts at 2pm.
Refer to previous posts for the topics for the day (first message)
At the workshop (second part of the program), teachers and participants are welcome to share any strategies and techniques they have been applying in their teaching, and any ideas they think that could help FETJs and beginners perform their job better will be greatly appreciated. New changes at Japan Elementary and Junior/Senior High Curriculums regarding English will also be discussed by the speaker.
The Theme for the seminar is : Classroom Activities: Utilizing Songs and Chants as main texts and sources of learning experiences. Ho do we use songs, chants, rhymes and verses as main content in the classroom? How do you transform them into cognitive and contextual activities? From one song, you could create several other activities observing the bottom-up and inductive approaches. What theories, innovations and methods support those strategies? Handouts will be distributed.
Any thoughts and suggestions, may be brought up there as well. During the break, our current organizer, Ms. Evelyn Asaka will be listing future program suggestions, and be leading an election of FETJ officers. Be counted! Volunteer your enthusiasm! SEE YOU THERE!

Normally. FETJ doesn't award any seminar certificate if it's a short 3-hour meeting. But that can be worked out if the majority would request for a simple attendance certification.
In my center (HBILC, operated in my house) I conduct 24-hour training courses (once a week 2-hour seminars for 3 months) for beginner teachers and I issue them a certificate that could help them in their employment applications or for additional credential needs. There were requests for some kind of associate-college level courses, but I am not a registered school yet, just a freelance teacher trainer ;). I am a bit qualified to conduct trainings as my Masters credits and university teaching experience in the Phil. could help somehow.
This is one of the big plans we have with Aurora, the founder of FETJ. We envision to train and give college-level teacher education to Filipinos here in Japan as going back to the Philippines to study would cost you family sacrifices and millions too. Both of us have about two years to prepare for that project. From 2010, English will be taught in Japan as a regular subject from Grade five and six. Gradually, requirements for English teachers in Japan would also be increased like at least achieving a TOEIC score of 750. (Start with your TOEIC self-studies now...lots of materials in bookstores :O) Anyways, your voice and other concerns shall be heard...we'll take note of teachers' requests.

Big thanks and congratulations to all those who attended the seminar held in Omiya. We had fun and enjoyed the wonderful sharings and ideas by all participants.
As it was important that Filipino English teachers be updated with the Japan MEXT rulings on English teaching and learning , several news and policy changes were disseminated to the group.
Important principles and methods in language teaching were emphasized. Techniques and Strategies through songs and chants transformed into various levels of intelligences, cognitive and context activities were discussed and later performed by the very talented and skillful Filipino women.
This truly shows how Filipino women could be better than any other nationalities in the teaching of English in Japan. It just takes some confidence and continuous training, and WE all would get there. Believe in yourself. Through practice and self-initiative, you attain a lot to be the best teacher in the world.
Old and new members attended, and CHOBET representative Lorie was also there...thanks to your big support! Elections of officers was conducted at the latter part of the meeting. This ensures the continuing programs and planning for FETJ, all for the benefit of the migrant Filipino in Japan. Be a part of this noble undertaking. My HBInterface and Rainbow projects both support and link to this main vein in Filipino English teaching ambitions in Japan.
If you could drop us a visit to see how FETJ with the help of HBILC and Rainbow.org trains teachers to the best they could in this field, this March 30, the Saitama, Sayama chapter will be sponsoring a similar seminar. The seminar starts at 2 pm and ends at 4PM. Venue: Sayama Kouminkan. As done in the Omiya meeting, 500 yen will be charged to each participant to cover paper and other expenses. I have suggested to the group as well, to form a set of officers right at the first few meetings to assure everyone of a continuous program.
Two other groups have requested to be given short seminars soon. It was overwhelming seeing the enthusiasm among these Filipino women, and we as trainors and organizers are just motivated to share more. We too can exert big amounts of sacrifice for the good of our fellow citizens. Thanks to those who keep recognizing FETJ, CHOBET and HBILC's role in this undertaking. Gather as many training and seminar certificates as you could, as that attitude leads you to the better end. Goodluck!
