When I was a young, I learnt the story of the 3 little pigs. Maybe Japanese didn't because my house is made of paper and wood:eek:!
This is Maya-chan, 1 yr old now. Her baby photos are in the Photos section here:

Anyone have any tips for protecting these kinda doors? I was thinking of laminating the flat side with clear contact, like for schoolbooks. That might stop them from being damaged in the first place. I have many extra rolls of the paper to replace torn ones, but would rather them not get torn at all.
Anyone else with these doors and little kids have any advice? (Not just little kids, I put my head through one at a Ryokan once:banghead:)

hello, your baby is really so adorable.. hmm, are you renting a house? If Yes, maybe you could ask the owner if they could replace it with a wooden sliding door. Therefore your baby wont be able to tear it just like in the photos.. Here in Okinawa, some sliding doors (that separates living room or bedroom) are made from wood, (and they have it covered with wallpaper).. Ask the owner, in that case you wont have to spend bucks of money..

Hi rhynissa,
Thanks for your advice! I wish I lived in Okinawa - love the hot weather:D.
We do rent the house, but are responsible for all maintenance of the house. It's nice, because we can renovate the house and do what we like, but we pay for everything:(. I suggested to my wife to change the bedroom doors opening to the garden with wooden ones we have spare, but then the room would be too dark... Maybe I will replace the paper parts of the door with PVC clear or frosted plastic... We have glass ones already but they are too dangerous for kids to play near.

Thanks summergirl,
Today my wife, baby and I went to a cake eating party :food: with a few Japanese mums and kids in the area. She'll have to be energetic this week to burn off the cake calories!

owww:p...how cute..look at her..she is so precious....:p....
I know how it feels making holes with your fingers or even doing " gu".....with that papers....( tanoshii yo-----)
it reminds me those days when we just moved here , our house windows has this kind of slide doors. me and my sister used to play with it putting our fingers and making holes with that papers.....its really fun......tonikaku tanoshiktte omoshiroi.........hi hihi....and my step father was always mad with us because he has to replace the papers everytime we messed .........and finally maybe he got tired of fixing it, then he removed the slide doors from the window......and my mother put a curtain....:O....."No more sliding paper door to tear off.....".......uh...... .tsumannai.....

like father, like daughter, eh..
well, if the critters attacking my house are as adorable as this little one, i won't mind letting them loose in the house and let them poke their heads anywhere they want. :D compared to that beaming face, it's just paper. you just keep on re-papering. she seems to enjoy a lot what she's doing to your house. if you're gonna cover it with plastic, you might make her a little sad. no more head-poking games.
anyway, in time, she'll grow out of it..
hehe, good luck! :)

Thanks mtwalton and itchay,
I see I have but 2 choices:
1. Make my house happy
2. Make my baby happy
I guess I'll have to go with making my baby happy:) and me tired:confused:!
Yesterday, I got a new hole in my office. Maybe Maya is giving me free Air-conditioning:eek:

hi 250xc! i remember my nephews back in the phils. they almost did the same thing to our house. our wall is of course not made of paper but of painted concrete. what my nephews did were treat our wall as whiteboard and scribbled on it. it`s so messy and my mom couldn`t do anything. for the meantime, my mom simply put curtains. now, we`re scheduled to have our wall repainted. good thing is, my nephews are no longer living with us but with their parents, and they`ve quite grown up and can understand instructions now. hopefully, no more scribblings. :)
kids are kids. sometimes they`re annoying but they`re adorable most of the time!
like your baby. she`s so cute, peeking in your torn door! :p so innocent-looking. probably, she`s looking for something in your office. had you left the door open, she would have not perhaps torn it....

chicken wire fence, a couple of electric cables and a 12v dc car battery would do the trick i bet. make sure shes properly grounded when she touches it.

Thanks greatbarrier,
Now, I'm scared to think of the walls when she starts to paint! haha
With work things in the office, I'm glad it was only the doors which were damaged:)
Yes, they are cute little things, kids. Maybe I should make some more, but first a stronger house!
