In February 2008 Anaheim University launched an online Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) certificate program that allows students to work full-time while completing the program at their own pace within 15 weeks from anywhere in the world. Students can begin their studies anytime and study under the direction of qualified faculty in an interactive environment while networking with teachers of English residing around the world.
The course covers language teaching methodology, listening, speaking, reading, writing, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, discourse, content-based instruction, using course books, computer assisted language learning, learning styles and strategies, learner autonomy in the classroom and classroom-based assessment.
According to David Bracey, Chief Communications Officer, "The TESOL certificate program is ideal for both new and experienced English Language Teaching professionals regardless if they are a native or non-native speaker of English. The foundations of English language teaching learned in the program can be applied to teaching either children or adults in a public or private school setting."
Anaheim University pioneered the field of online education when it launched its Master of Arts in TESOL program in 1998. The 2-year MA program is taught online with weekly real-time online classes and two 4-day residential sessions in California. The program is taught entirely by Dr. David Nunan, Dr. Rod Ellis, Dr. Kathleen Bailey and Dr. Ruth Wajnryb, four of the world's most renowned linguists and acclaimed authors whose work has been published by the world's leading ELT publishers. Dr. David Nunan is the world's leading textbook series author with textbook sales exceeding 300 million, Dr. David Nunan and Dr. Kathleen Bailey are both former Presidents of TESOL, the world's largest language teaching organization, and Dr. Rod Ellis was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh prize for the best book in applied linguistics for his Oxford University Press classic The Study of Second Language Acquisition.
