New design, ads, etc.

Hello Timog Forum members!

As you probably noticed, we have a new design, which is not much different from the last one. We also added a Google search on the top of the page. Please use it to search for past threads, to prevent duplication of posts or to search for answers to something you might want to ask.

We also added some ads on the right side of the threads; we hope you don't mind. Since we moved to a new server more than a month ago, our server costs have multiplied almost 10X and we thought a little advertisement might lessen the burden.

We'd like to add that this is an experimental design and some users might experience quirks and errors somewhere. Please post anything ususual in the forums in this thread and we'll look into it as soon as possible.

To Nick and everyone behind TF,

I was just looking at the logo when I refreshed my page, then I saw the changes in the site, and then read this post -

So, now we have a new look... that is so cool.

And about the ads, of course they are all welcome - the more ads mean TF stays maintained all the time... thank you advertisers... more power to all of you.

And by the way, I hope all members read the rules when posting... please avoid text mail.... let us help maintain the quality and standards of TF.

Nick, those google-ads on the rightside of the plate editable? I find the overall layout quite heavy on the whites and contrast. Maybe because of the Black against white format of the texts. Perhaps we can tone the bgs down a bit, maybe a bit of grey?

Thanks for the comments! Really, I just do the announcements but the moderators all work to make the site better for everyone. And not to mention all the helpful members here in Timog. Thanks also to you.

The long answer: The "Search this Forum" function is the built-in function of the website and only available for registered members. I don't really know exactly how it works but I think it indexes only the "key words" inside the posts (maybe Paul knows this better) and I sometimes can't find what I'm looking for when I use it. Plus, it uses our server to search, which isn't really good especially when there are many people online doing searches.

Of course, Google is Google and they make a pretty good work searching the Net. They have indexed most of Timog Forum except the very recent posts and they can do lightning searches because they don't use our slow servers and they show relevant results. The only downside is that, like I mentioned before, the most recent threads and posts may not have been indexed yet.

Please use both to search Timog.
