Hello TF members!
I hope you enjoy hanging out in Timog as much as we have fun maintaining the website (well, most of the time). Although we don't post much ourselves (most of our time is spent answering questions, reading reported posts, sending tactful messages to members, moving, merging, splitting and editing threads, and messing around with the code of the software that runs this site), we do like reading the posts of other people especially if they contribute positively to our community.
We'd like to ask you three little favors when you post:
1. Please post in the right forum. We know how hard it is to decide what posts go to which forums so we made the list below. Read it to your heart's content and feel free to come back to this thread is case you get lost.Forum Announcements: This forum is used by the administrators and super moderators for announcements about the website.
Feedback & Questions: If you have some comments about the website or if you have questions about how to use this website, please post here. Suggestions are also welcome. This forum is not for asking things like: "What papers do I nead for a permament visa?" or "Where can I get the cheapest iPod in Akihabara?".
Forum Tips & Howtos: Anyone can post here about how to use a certain feature of this website. Seems like a dead forum if you ask me.
Weblinks: No one can post here but me. I'm thinking of deleting this forum altogether.
Community News: Everyone seems to want to post in this forum and I don't know the exact reason why. This forum is only for news that has a direct relation to Filipinos in Japan. News from the Philippine Embassy in Tokyo? Post here. A gathering of forum members? You've come to the right place. Arroyo visiting Tokyo? Sure. A coup d'etat in Manila? Nope, you're in the wrong forum.
Community Issues: I don't think this needs explanation at all.
Buhay Japan: Nor this one.
Visa & Legal Issues: Visas, passports, forms, bills, certificates, law, etc.
Technology & Recreation: "Internet, PC, gadgets, movies, music, books, TV programs at iba pa."
Kainan at Lutuan: Pretty self-explanatory.
Pictures: Only for pictures taken personally by the poster.
New Members: If you're a new member, please post an introduction here. People who post here are automatically given 10 charisma points by us, and are given more latitude when they make mistakes. New members who immediately butt into arguments without posting in this forum are presumed to know what they're doing and are not given the same leniency.
News Items: Current events, not news from 2 years ago. News that is not new is not news anymore, right? Also, we want news that is on a reputable website. News that you heard from a friend is an entirely different thing. Don't put a whole article from Inquirer in your post lest their lawyers come knocking on our doors with copyright infringement claims. Post one or two paragraphs just to let people know that the whole article is about and provide the link to the whole story.
Personals: Greetings, person to person stuff that people want the whole world to read.
Everything Else: There's a bunch of unclassifiable threads in here. If we notice enough threads of the same kind, we may make a new forum just for them. But for now, all threads that don't belong to any of the forums should be here.
Forum Games: Endless threads, for people who have all the time in the world.
Musings: The only forum we made especially for one member: Abeng. When Timog Forum was young, Abeng (where are you?) posted a lot of literary pieces in the forums which we thought needed a forum of their own, hence "Musings". Like "Pictures", please post here only things that you thought up by yourself: original thoughts, not by the author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul (or worse, chain-letter stuff). We need to clean this forum up, by the way.
Pinoy Talk: About the Philippines, rants and raves.
Testing Ground: For testing,obviously.
The other forums are very self-explanatory and need no elaboration.
2. Put a good name on your posts. "Kailangan ba ng guarantor para sa Permanent Visa?" is better than "Tanong?".
3. Right after you press the "Submit New Thread" button, please check how your post looks like in the fronpage (if it's displayed). Big pictures and long links ruin the Timog frontpage because they stretch the columns out of shape. If this happens put smaller pictures (read the Images in Timog Forum (http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569 ), by the way) and for links, put links on words not the link themselves.Example: Blaupunkt Subwoofer Commercial (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4330 51408923354409&q). (Video link, rated R)
Not: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4330 51408923354409&q
"Rules, rules, rules!" you say. We're sorry, but we need lots of rules around here. In the Philippines, by the way, we pay a lot of people just to sit there all day doing nothing when they should be crafting laws of the land that would benefit us all. It's good we're not paid in Timog Forum to make rules; otherwise, we'd have a lot more of them.
Happy posting! :)
