This is a very good move, Ugnayan. Do you have direct contacts in Leyte as in folks who will distribute goods among affected families of the disaster? What particular goods do you suggest to contribute? Please carry on!

Maraming salamat sa reply mo, Ka Tonyang! Marami kaming contacts sa Leyte at mayroon pa kaming mission group coordinators at church leaders doon pero kaming Japan-based charity concert organizers ay palaging nagpapadala sa Red Cross like for the Tsunami Victims we sent our support through Japan Red Cross and for the Katrina Victims we sent the raised funds through American Red Cross.

Please keep us posted, Ugnayan.

Good luck sa inyong concert, Ugnayan, at balitaan tayo.

Glad to receive another message from you, Tonyang! Ang bilis mong sumulat at sumagot. Sige magbalitaan tayo!

Let me know kung may kakilala ka.

God bless you, kabayan!:tiphat: :halo:

God bless your heart, Dai & Docomo!

Here's a letter from the Philippine Red Cross in response to our AsiAid Charity Concert for Philippine Mudslide Victims:

20 February 2006

Dear Mr. Manalang and Sister Venus Hannah:

On behalf of the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC), I would like to thank you for your response to our most recent tragedy. Indeed, it is great to have learned that there are people like you who are willing to extend their help amidst other personal and social obligations. Because of you and FCMN International Mission Center, we are pleased, hopeful and confident that we will function accordingly in aiding the mudslide victims of Southern Leyte with the following Red Cross actions:

1. Retrieval of dead and Rescue of survivors
2. Manage the staging area and render medical help to injured
3. Tracing service
4. Provide psychosocial support (stress debriefing)
5. Relief Assistance
6. Medical Assistance

A rain-soaked mountainside disintegrated in an unstoppable wall of mud last Friday, burying hundreds of houses and an elementary school in the village of Guinsaugon. A total of 2,700 individuals, consisting of 540 families, have been affected. As of the moment, the death toll is 72. There have been 57 survivors, 281 houses damaged and 1,557 evacuees at four operation centers. To date, the Disaster Management Team and other volunteers of PNRC still continue to search for and rescue more than 946 people missing under. In this light, we are open to both monetary and in-kind donations with the following details and procedures:

1. For our Peso Account:

Bank: Metro Bank, Port Area Branch
Account Name: The Philippine National Red Cross
Account #: SA-3-041-63122-8

Bank: BPI, UN Branch
Account Name: The Philippine National Red Cross
Account #: SA 8114-00309-4
For our Dollar account:

Bank: Metro Bank Port Area Branch
Account name: The Philippine National Red Cross
Account #: SA 2-151-00218-2

SWIFT CODE: MBTC PHMM
*Please fax your deposit slip to (63-2) 5270575 / 5255654 / 4040979 for us to acknowledge your donations accordingly.

2. In-kind Donations

May we get the details on what exactly you plan to send here. Is it worth the shipment? Our concern for you is that the shipment fee might be costlier than the goods themselves which is why we encourage monetary contributions. We prefer purchasing of goods locally not just to save you from handling fees but also to help the economy of the local area/s affected. However, should you deem that your in-kind donations are of a great necessity and worth the shipment cost, we do appreciate all of the items and we will allocate them to the many beneficiaries.

In connection to this, you may donate the following medicines:
a. Amoxicillin (125 mg / 5 ml for kids; 500 mg capsule for adults)
b. Paracetamol (for fever, flu)
c. Mefanamic Acid (for pain)
d. Hydrite Tablet (for diarrhea)

Bottled water, sleeping mats and ready-to-eat foods are necessities as well.
Please send your donations to:

The Philippine National Red Cross
C/o Mr. Victor A. Liozo, the Secretary General
or Ms. Gwen Pang, the Director of Fund Generation
National Headquarters, Bonifacio Drive
Anda Circle, Port Area, Manila
Philippines

Please address directly to Red Cross, not to the aforementioned individual recipients, for you to not be charged with tax.

For more information, please reach me in my mobile number, +639178277421 or my landline, 5255654. You may look for Ms. Bellie Bartolome on my behalf. You mail email me too at gwenpang@redcross.or g.ph.

We are looking forward to your utmost support in serving the humanity especially in times like this.

Sincerely,

GWENDOLYN T. PANG

Director, Fund Generation
& Executive Asst. to the Chairman

Red Cross appeals for help in Leyte landslide

First posted 05:07pm (Mla time) Feb 20, 2006
By Veronica Uy
INQ7.net

ABOUT 200 people were believed killed and 1,500 others were missing when a landslide buried an entire village in Southern Leyte.

The farming village of Guinsaugon on Leyte island, 670 kilometers (420 miles) southeast of Manila, was virtually wiped out, with only a few jumbles of corrugated steel sheeting left to show that the community of some 2,500
people ever existed.

As of this posting, 33 bodies were recovered and 53 people were rescued from the rubble of a landslide. But officials said rescue operations were called off at nightfall for fear of another landslide.

The Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) is appealing for help.

PNRC fund raising director Gwen Pang said the Red Cross is now accepting donations in cash, medicines, clothes, and blankets.

“We prefer cash to canned goods,” she said.

”The medicines we need now are those for fever, flu, coughs, and colds, although later we might need medicines for skin diseases,” Pang said.

Those who wish to send donations may contact the following Red Cross hotlines:

+63 920 9527268

+63 917 8068513

+63 2 5270864 (telephone and fax)

+63 2 5270000 (trunkline)

The church and mission group's February 2006 Prayerline sent to us in Japan was received on February 17. One of the prayer requests: "Pray for pastors and Christian leaders to encourage more local farmers to plant rubber trees in about 300-500 hectares of land. Pray for the need of funds to conduct lectures and stewardship seminars to 60-137 barangays in the Pacific towns from St. Bernard to Silago.

We received this prayer concern the very day a baranggay in St. Bernard was buried with mud due to avalanche. May we can continue to support the mission endeavor of this group in conducting seminars to the local farmers in Leyte.

We are seriously raising funds for the Philippine Mudslide Victims that we printed a lot of AsiAid posters and tickets. We even paid a whole-page advertisement at Metropolis for 2 issues (March 3 & 10) to encourage people to support our cause.

If you would like to help--sponsor the event, buy or sell tickets--please keep in touch as soon as possible. Many Japanese and foreigners I talked to are encouraged to know that we Filipinos in Japan are doing something for the recent tragedy in our own country...Yes, we can do something!

All proceeds to Philippine National Red Cross.

As of today, only Adechan from TF who bought 2 tickets for AsiAid Charity Concert for Leyte/Philippine Red Cross.

We would appreciate your prayers for the success of the benefit show on Saturday, March 11, from 7PM-11PM. YMCA-Saitama is helping us coordinate Japanese volunteers for this event.

Hope to see some TF people during the AsiAid Charity Concert.

***********

Ugnayan, sowwe dalawa lang ang nakuha ko sa iyo the last time. I tried to give the infos sa mga kakilala ko dito, nga lang lahat ang problema ay hindi kayang magbiyahe nang gabi .....

and thank you very much for joining me sa elementary school, they like the songs you shared to them ....

Praying for the event tonight ....

Thank you to Adechan who was the only one from TF who supported us. I hope & pray next time, we can act together as one Filipino Family in Japan. Proceeds of the AsiAid Charity Concert: Philippine National Red Cross

Below are pictures of the Japanese volunteers arranged by my school, YMCA-Saitama. These young people have joined the Philippine Work Camp 2005 where they built toilets in Pangasinan for free. They raised their own airfare and board & lodging fees. They always look forward to meeting a lot of Filipinos in Japan!

Congrats, Ugnayan! God bless you, Joey, Adechan and your group for the wonderful contributions you are doing to help the less fortunate ones in our country.
