mawalang galang na po...pero pwede po...depende po yata sa state na pupuntahan nyo...sa state of california po ay pwede...nung nagpunta ako dun 2 years ago ay nag search ako about this dahil my sister in the phil. told me that i can drive there using my local driver's license...and may nabasa ako na pwede nga daw as long as valid ito meaning hindi sya expired... at tsaka kung visitor lang po kayo... no need to get an IDL...

God bless! :)

Hi, may friend akong nagpunta sa US years ago nag-rent ng car, nakapag-rent ng car using the Japanese Driver's License, pero depende sa State. About using the Philippine Driver's License, I have no idea.

Para sigurado, bakit di na lang sya kumuha ng IDP tutal, wala pang 15 minutes makukuha mo na ang International Driving Permit sa Japan, if I remember right 2500 yen fee, hindi naman kasi kamahalan, rather than taking the risk.

Although I heard from a friend's American bf, mahigpit na raw ngayon, na hindi na raw puede and IDP sa US which I find strange. I haven't confirmed this issue, baka depende kung saan galing ang IDP mo and depende sa place na pupuntahan. Am here in the US now and driving using my Japanese IDP which I think is reliable, dalhin na rin ang Japanese (local) driver's license para sure.

Why not call some Travel Agency or google it or ask Japan Driver's Licensing Center's international section near your place to confirm :)

pwede po gamitin ang Philippine or Japanese LOCAL license as long as it is valid for 1 year upon designated date of usage. Depende sa STATE kung ano yung Motorist Law nila, or it might not even be state but a Federal Law. From my understanding, CALIFORNIA will allow you to drive using your Overseas acquired license for a period of 1 year upon entry into the U.S under a Visitor's visa. This applies in the southern states as well (i.e: SC,NC,TX,GA,FL etc.) WORD OF CAUTION::: PLEASE get automobile insurance while you are driving here in the U.S., it is a mandatory law that each driver should at least have the minimum liability coverage on their vehicle once they commence driving. Some states will actually PUT YOU IN JAIL A.S.A.P once they catch you without the Insurance. In CA you will get a hefty fine or even imprisonment. In TX they will put you in jail and you won't be able to leave TX until you pay the fine ($1000-$3000). In GA they will automatically send you to jail, and if you are actually a non-resident alien, you wouldn't be allowed bond unless you post it first before your first hearing. BOND in GA is usually ($1,350) I suggest that you purchase minimum libaility insurance at the car rental facility (Usually runs around $10-15/day) to save you the money and extreme hassle of getting caught here in the U.S.

F.Y.I= I stay in California for now, and have lived in various other states due to the nature of my job, Motorist laws may vary, but i suggest researching each States laws for mandatory requirements.

If you want, you can tell me which state you are going to and I can advise you of the do's and dont's

Have fun, driving in America nowadays is like driving in the South Super Highway, marami ring siraulo dito. INGATS!

depende po sa state where your friend is going. but most of the states in the US allow the use of Phil driver`s license. for example, in california and new york, my cousins told me that an adult (i.e., over 18 yrs old) can drive there even without a california/NY driver`s license for the entire validity period of his/her driver`s license issued from his/her home state or country. in new york, they don`t actually honor international driving permit. if you drive there, you must have with you your home country`s driver`s license. IDP simply serves as a verification that you have a valid driver`s license from your home country.

hope this helps. :)

GOOD LUCK in driving in NYC, if ever sa Manhattan area siya mag drive. I advise na mag subway nalang siya, last time i was in NYC it was $21 for a whole weeks worth of unlimited subway rides, theres multiple train routes in Manhattan, it goes all the way from Queens to the Bronx and Brooklyn, and most definitely passes downtown, midtown and uptown Manhattan where all major business districts are. Using public transpo within the city is no problem, coz it runs 24 hrs. a day. Its the city that never sleeps ika-nga. Mas makaka sight see at travel siya faster with a subway rather than a car, your friend will be stuck in traffic THE WHOLE DAY

As for the laws, tama sila sa pagsabi nilang depende sa state. I'm not particular with NY, but one thing for sure is that you need LIABILITY insurance if you're driving in all 3 states. I beleive it is 15/30 (15k for car, 30k for human liability) **AGAIN... it depends sa state***Mura lang yon, walang problema.

Sa TX, bawal iwanan ang kotse for even 5 min. sa major highways, they will tow your car A.S.A.P and thats the law. Make sure all lights and blinkers are checked prior to driving, TX has a hefty fine for these violations.

So no problem, basta valid ang license.

**QUICK NOTE::: Depending on your rental car company, they might honor your INTERNATIONAL DRIVERS's INSURANCE. Minsan hindi nila ino-honor kasi hindi sila naniniwalang may magbabayad ngang company incase of an accident.

Good luck nalang
