It may have been the most expensive game of rock, paper, scissors ever played. Takashi Hashiyama, president of Maspro Denkoh Corporation, an electronics company based outside of Nagoya, Japan, could not decide whether Christie's or Sotheby's should sell the company's art collection, which is worth more than $20 million. So he ordered the rival auction houses to play a round of scissors paper stone for the privilege. (Jak en Poy ba.)
Sotheby’s treated the contest as a game of chance, but Nicholas Maclean, the international director of Christie’s Impressionist and modern art department, consulted his 11-year-old twin daughters. On their advice, the company played scissors to Sotheby’s paper and clinched the contract.
