Here's a communication with STAC-Japan for the post-event realities for the victims and their families... our campaign is to help Kalinga Leyte Project: to build houses.

In the spirit of diaspora, is it possible for all of us to become part of it?

One Organization = One House?

----------------
Derlie, that's 120,000 yen only? If there are 120 members here who
can donate their 1000 yen, we'll provide a house for one family
already. Baka sina Arnold, Gilbert, Monots, tig-5000 yen ang
ibibigay niyan kaya lalong lalaki ang mga donasyon. Then iyung
magiging butal, that could be used for livelihood programs.
Derlie, Kitkat, pls manage the money first. Siguro alamin natin kung
sino ang beneficiaries at kahit may picture man lang para makita ng
mga tutulong at maramdaman kung paano natin sila natulungan.
In the meantime, tulong-tulong tayo rito sa list para sa ating
bayanihan. Gamitin natin iyung account ni Kitkat for STAC-J donation
drive. Ayan, Alan parang PRO ako ngayon haha.

Suzie, Marie, pls carry on with your donation drives there. Good
luck!

Sulat
nga ni Louie "bahala na si Bathala". After all, everything we're
doing in this world is between you and God.

GK ANCOP GK USA Response to Southern Leyte Mudslides Tragedy

We have heard the news and seen the heart-wrenching pictures of the recent mudslides in Southern Leyte. Many have asked how they could help and make sure that their help goes to those who need it.

Gawad Kalinga has launched Kalinga Leyte, not just for emergency relief, but more so to build new communities for the poorest of the poor in the devastated province. GK ANCOP USA is calling on the USA Leyte associations and all US-based Leytenos to be at the forefront of the work of Kalinga Leyte.

Let us include Southern Leyte in our effort to raise partners and resources in the US to build GK villages. It will complement the decision made earlier by Secretary Nonong Cruz of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) and Tony Meloto of Gawad Kalinga to treat Southern Leyte as we treated the typhoon-ravaged areas of Luzon under the Kalinga Luzon program.

Just like what we are doing with Kalinga Luzon, we in GK find ourselves in the eye of the relief/rehab activities by the simple fact that we are focused on work for the poor - the perennial victims of calamities. After the relief supplies stop coming to disaster zones, GK brings permanent rehabilitation so the victims do not come to squat in the cities. By the end of 2005, we have opened Kalinga Luzon villages in 44 towns with the strong support of local government units. By providing sturdy homes on legitimately acquired land (470 has. donated to date) that are safe from floods and landslides, and teaching the GK residents in rural areas to be productive, we are curbing urban migration and starting to reduce the population of informal settlers in the typhoon prone areas. (Please see the Kalinga Luzon update in our website- www.gawadkalinga.org (http://www.gawadkalinga.org ).)

Two years ago, Gawad Kalinga also helped the landslide survivors of Liloan and San Ricardo, Southern Leyte. The GK villages that we built there are proving not just another tragedy-to-hope example but one notch higher. Because lessons were learned and because GK was guided by technical assistance from the MGB (Mines and Geosciences Bureau), the villages still stand on areas deemed much safer than others and serve as virtual refugee centers for neighboring communities who feel threatened where they are. Last year窶冱 victims are now benefactors. This is a pattern with similar GK villages (Cabiao, Baseco) which were built from tragedy and later served as safe places during storms and floods.

Brethren, I know that the pressure increases for us as disasters keep destroying sites where the poor abound (mountain slopes, river banks, sea shores). As it is, we in the USA are due to deliver more villages for Kalinga Luzon and now have to add villages for Kalinga Leyte. That is why we are called on to be heroes. As we launch GK 1MB or Isang Milyong Bayani all over the USA this weekend, let us also launch Kalinga Leyte and fire up everyone to spread the good news of Gawad Kalinga to get more and more partners to build GK villages! Together, we can accomplish GK777!

Please go to our website (www.ancopusa.org (http://www.ancopusa.org)) to get more information on becoming a GK village partner or helping build GK villages. Attached is the newly UPDATED GK VILLAGE PARTNERSHIP PACKET with the new Village Partnership form that is now required for all GK Village Partners.

Thank you & may God bless us all!

Susuportahan natin to.
