功績 kouseki contribution, (rendered) services
的 mato target, object, mark
(的を絞る mato wo shiboru) - focus the target, limit the object

Your turn for your 'today'

Nice thread d_southpaw. Ako naman kanina lang habang binabasa ko ang isang report ay may natutunan akong salita:

猛禽類 : もうきんるい : bird of prey

Nahirapan ako sa paghanap ng 禽 na yan kasi akala ko ay 离 (sa kaliwa ng 離) sa umpisa. Yun pala may bubong pa. :D

Hello TF! here is the word that I like. It is called ”Yonmoji Jukugo”(four letter idiom)

温故知新 おんこちしん(onkochis hin)
-an attempt to discover new things by studying the past through scrutiny of the old

Our world is advancing so fast,we tend to forget appreciating what we had in past history such as tradions or unique culture. What do you think?

hi d_southpaw,

Pwede ba i-share dito yung kotowaza na itinuro ko sa isang kaibigan ko a few days ago?

爪 の 垢 を 煎じて 飲ます。 ( Tsume no aka wo senjite nomasu).

tsume : nails (kuko)

aka : dirt ( libag)

senjite : simmer (ilaga)

Ginagamit itong proverb na ito when you want to tell a lazy person to be more like someone industrious.

Sorry kung OT ha.

脱帽(だつぼう) datsubou
it means "hats off"

this words is commonly use by japanese to show their paghanga sa isang tao. parang "saludo" ang kahulugan sa atin. commonly na ginagamit ng mga foreigner here is "SUGUI", but you can use it also to praise someone. halimbawa eh, maganda ang boses nong kasama mo sa karaoke. you can say "SUGUI DESUNE, DATSUBOU DESUYO".:)

Not really a 「今日習った言葉」, but a phrase that I like:

手っ取り早い : てっとりばやい : q uick and easy

Halimbawa may pinagagawa sayo sa trabaho, sa simula mabagal ka pa pero later on pagnasasanay ka na, natututunan mo na ang 手っ取り早い na やり方 para mas efficient. Pag mas efficient, mas matatapos mo ng maaga, mas makakapag-TF ka pa. ;) :D

Hello TF members! Totsuzen desu ga,there are words as such as ”根性”(konjou) or
”気合” (kiai). They both could be translated as "fighting spirit" or "will power". They are often used at athletic event and sometimes at daily basis as well. :)

I personaly do not like to use these words and dislike others to use them to me...
"根性入れて頑張れ、気合だよ気 合!”
Please boss! I`m just issuing a payment slip to my client!!

Well, while datsubou is fine - in casual conversations, your SUGUI, (which is supposed to be SUGOI) will be just as effective.

"Sugoi desu ne." (Isn't it great! or something like that)
