Yo!
Many of us do have digital video camera and does anyone here is engaged in video making via personal computer? Does anyone here knows if there is English speaking digital video makers club in Japan? If none, is anyone out here interested to form digital video making club for Filipinos in Japan to help people who are interested to learn and fulfill their dream to become video/film maker?
I have digital (non-linear) video editing gear and basic digital video making training to share with everyone if such digital video makers club will be formed.
Just post your reply.

Yes yes yo! Dehins bagay sa akin. hehe.
I'm not aware of any english pro groups - but I am also into compositing and a bunch of other stuff ... I think they also conduct such workshops for seniors in the building where I work...
Malapit lang pala kami sa inyo... Looking forward to your films.

Thanks Crispee! Yep Firipinjin, unfortunately I am not a mac user so I do not know this app.

Digital video recorder na ba o still on Hi8 video format. But to remind you maraming hassles sa setup.
You also need video capturing software and video editing software.

Since were not talking about a MAC here (tutot ito - macs makes it simpler, di ba Paul? :) ), I'd like to add from what Tiks wrote above:
HARDWARE:
Just to add. Since medyo luma na rin ang system mo, you need to have lots of memory. I can't say a minimum but it doesnt hurt to have at least 2 GIGs of RAM. Editing and compositing is a memory hog so a fast machine is always advisable. You also need a lot of harddisk space as captured footages sometimes amount to hundreds of megabytes per second. You'd need a firewire card as Tiki mentioned (they're cheap usually in the range of 1-2 thousand yen). You use the firewire to a connect your digital video camera to the pc, to capture footages as well to dump your outputs back to dv or whatever format you want them. If your source is analog, (Hi8 or VHS), *you'd need an extra equipment called a DV Converter. What it does - it converts the analog signal (Hi8/VHS) to digital or DV so it still plugs into the firewire and into something your pc could read.
SOFTWARE:
You'd need software to be able to make the hardware stuff work, to capture and dump the final output to tape (if thats your choice). There are commercial ones (you buy) like ADOBE PREMIERE, AFter Effects, etc but there are also freebies available in the internet.
*______________
you can actually do away with a dv converter if the dv camera model allows analog connection (the red, yellow, black cables) to the analog source (Hi8, vhs deck etc). So if you are able to dub the analog video to dv then it would be fine. What the dv convertion process tries to avoid is losing resolution. Analog video is a lossy signal so once you dub it - you lose detail in the resulting dub. The beauty of going digital is that you don't normally lose quality. A digital copy is exactly like it is - an exact copy. (Depending on the compression applied of course)

I made a documentary of the 10th year anniversary of one office in Tokyo about their work on Japanese-Filipino children. Ang ginamit ko ay yung four years ago ko pa inasembol CPU na AMD-Athlon 1.2 Ghz, 512 RAM, on AOpen motherboard with built-in firewire and soundcard. I used DV format home video camera sa shooting.
Eniweys when I tried to make this are all for experimental purposes with the aim of literally producing video documentary using non-pro equipment on shoe string budget. The office who comissioned me to do the work is well satisfied and in-fact they are selling the video as part of their fund raising.
If you want to see the result of a video made as described above just send me your postal address at papadalhan ko kayo ng 25 minutes video, Songs and Photographs of Japanese-Filipino childrena and their mother in VCD format. Kung makakatulong to see sa aktwal ang unit used all are welcome to visit my shop at Shinjuku-ku.
Four years ago nga pala the whole CPU unit minus monitor na inasembol ko, worth of spare parts only, ay 58,000 yen.

Sinubukan kung gamitin yung USB kasi may kasama syang software for video editing.
salamat ..

Most probably, your machine does not support USB 2. SCSI is not even the answer. If you upgrade to newer machines, I'm sure the response would be a lot faster as they natively support USB 2 (which is a lot faster when it comes to data transfers)

Anyways - the quality of the output isnt in the machine, well yes but not really totally, it depends on a lot of factors like size, and on the compression used. The Higher the compression, the lesser the filesize, the lower the quality becomes. Lesser Compression results to bigger file size but good resolution. Choosing the right balance is an art in itself so there is no clear definition as to what compression format or level would be appropriate.
TikiTiki , saan shop mo and what do you do?

Hindi sila gumagamit ng computer as a main component.

Actually ang hinahanap ko ay mga pipol who are interested to do digital video production with or without experience. I can provide the training, especially sa mga half-Japanese Filipino teeners and young on digital documentation using chipipay system (assembled computers and home video camera) that is affordable to all with similar to not professionally done production. Of course what I am looking are the few interested who are willing to give time and dedication to the art of digital video. With their time and dedication ay iyon na mismo ang bayad nila sa training to be received.
I' ve been to the linear editing before who spends sa rental ng editing shops who later found the digital non-linear editing method na super ang cheap ng production cost.

salamat

We could throw a dinner for this if ever... mga interesado sa video-editing, build tayo ng online club kumbaga.

Salamat Tonyang pero providing training lang ang mission ko saka yong sinasabi kong video docu that I made is under the name ng producer who owns the copyright. I can only give copy to interested people on private purpose.
