this tip is about how you can meet your friend in the airport who has a connecting flight. it's actually happened to me. last saturday, i go to narita airport to meet my friend whose flight origin is from vancouver canada (air canada), and has a connecting flight in narita to philippines. ang sasakyan to philippines is JAL745. since she has a waiting time of almost 3 and half hour, i thought there will be a way that we can meet at the airport. and since it is in japan, akala ko rin madali lang makapasok sa loob. but then di pala ganun kadali. dumating iyong airliner from canada at usapan namin na direct na sya don sa boarding gate ng connecting flight nya at don kami magkikita. but then bawal daw pala makapasok sa loob, so the result is di kami nagkita. since gusto ko talaga sya makita, bago ko nag giveup, nagtatanong ako kung paano makapasok sa loob. and here is what i knew:
1. according from information desk in the airport, bawal daw talaga pumasok sa loob, but there is a case na meron ding nakakapasok(another exemption to the rules) base on your reason. pero talagang bawal talaga. for you to go inside, kakausapin mo iyong air liner mo. don ka raw makikiusap because sila ang responsible for anything na may mangyayari.
2. since sabi ng information desk iyon, tried kong makiusap sa information desk ng JAL. according to them, bawal talaga pumasok sa loob, at talagang di nila ko pinapasok siguro iyong reason ko eh di ganun ka emergency. maybe if its a matter of life and death makakapasok siguro. and according to them, even iyong passenger na nakapasok na at naka check na sa immigration ay di na rin pwedeng lumabas. regarding to my inquiry kung paano makalabas or ma meet iyong friend ko with connecting flights is, the only way is kailangan munang lumabas iyong friend ko at di dapat mag direct sa connecting flight daw. pag lumabas daw ang isang passenger, syempre dadaan sya sa immigration for checking. malaki ang possiblity raw na papalabasin sya sabi nong information desk ng JAL. then pagpunta nya sa boarding gate ng connecting flights nya, kailangan dumaan ulit sya sa immigration for checking. that is the only way that you can meet someone with connecting flights dahil bawal talagang pumasok sa loob.
so, if you have a friend to meet in the airport with connecting flight, advise your friend to go outside first at wag mag direct sa connecting flight nya. thanks for reading. :)

...I have same situation..ang advice skin nong NWA noon...bago po sya mag board sa NWA or before palang kunin yong ticket makikipag usap muna sya sa NWA then kukuha ng temporary pass po pra makalabas sya ng Airport pansamantala..pro d rin namin nagawa kasi no time noon at d namin alam proper procdure

This might be possible for transits from countries with visa waivers sa Japan. Once the passenger pass out sa immigration you are now considered a visitor (good if you have a waiver or visa in to Japan - if not, then you will not be allowed). Once you get out, there is a chance that you would have to pay the airport fee again, and as DAX mentioned, fall in line in the immigration and possibly - with only three hours in between flights, a chance to lose the next flight. So save yourself from the troubles - maybe its better to never attempt - unless of course its a matter of life and death.

Striver, I'd like to ask whether your friend had informed the airline company about your plan to meet each other at Narita, before his departure from Canada. Because, I had the same case with my father and some relatives. Coming from LA to Manila, may stop-over sila sa Narita, about four hours. So, Northwest airline made some arrangements, so that they could go out and meet me sa waiting area. But again, the arrangement was done 'nung nasa LA palang sila, while buying their tickets. Siguro ngayon, mahigpit na. Mahirap na rin gumawa ng ganitong arrangement.
Thank you so much, for the info. I'll bear this in mind.

yes, striver san bawal talagang pumasok sa loob for no business purposes, eto ay para na rin sa kaligtasan ng mga passengers. and even a single information they will not give you about the passenger.

He'll try daw dahil alam nya mahigpit sa Narita.

yon nga ang pagkakamali ko rin. since wala ko alam at first time mangyari iyon. siguro di sya gumawa ng any arrangement when she was in canada or the before her flight. kaya siguro nagkaganon. thanks:)

Good morning, Sir. Kaya siguro, napagbigyan sila, four years ago.
Maraming salamat din....

Hello Striver,
After 9/11, no decent airport anywhere in the world will allow a non-passenger to enter beyond the immigration counters. Technically, you have stepped out of Japan when you pass beyond these counters. That is why despite the number of security checks the passengers have to go through, the security rating of NAIA by US authorities remains low: masyadong porous yung control.)
The only way to meet someone in Narita is for the passenger to get out of the secured area into the public lobbies. This is usually not a problem for people who hold a US, Canadian, EU or other first world passports - they can simply ask for a short "sight-seeing while on transit" permit (I don't remember the official name for this), and they would not need to pay the terminal fee (If I remember correctly) if they return within a certain number of hours. Ang problema lang ay kung Pinoy passport ang hawak - the suspicion immediately is baka mag-TNT yung tao.
