I can sympathize with your husband.

My recommendation is for you to go to a university hospital to get a second opinion.

(I am assuming your husband is Japanese. If he is Pinoy, then I can understand kung bakit mas gusto niyo sa atin - at least walang communication problem.)

Pero pag-usapan niyo ng mabuti, dahil mata yan - it's important not to do more damage than good.

Hi bell :) . A friend of mine had her LASIK done in 2002 at Makati Eye Clinic near Don Bosco. Her attending physician was Dr. Jinky Dinglasan. According to her, initial step was a diagnostic test to determine if she was a candidate for the procedure. Normally, everyone would pass that unless the patient has special concerns such as glaucoma (high blood pressure in the eyes) etc. Even diabetes patients are accepted provided there are full disclosures because patient's vision fluctuates with blood sugar level.

The preparation time takes about 30 mins. - topical anaesthesia is applied to eyes. The actual procedure takes about 5 mins per eye, in her case. She was required to wear a special shades provided by the clinic to prevent accidental touching/scratching of the eyes. She was also prohibited to wet her eyes & no swimming for a month. It cost her P65,000 (2002) for the entire process - diagnosis, surgery and follow up check ups (1-2x) for the remainder of the year. She has an annual retinal check-up which costs about P1.5k for precautionary measures. She said other patients skip on this procedure but she feels the need to do it after being `blind` for the most part of her life (refraction-850 per eye). Based on her last check up, she now has a 15-20 vision, better than the usual 20-20, and happy with the result.

Also i was told, there is a new machine which can now correct myopia at the same time to address the progressive far sightedness due to age. Additional info lang, in case it applies to your husband's present eye condition . Makati Eye's phone is +63 2 8931152.

Btw, try to check also links on medical tourism (medication with tour packages). Wala akong info to share on this, pero additional option lang for your family in case interested :).

You're welcome.

Ano man ang maging decision ninyong mag-asawa, good luck. :)

@dax 400,000 en, gomen.

@bell, 5 years ago sya nagpa-LASIK. Sobra laking improvement talaga, maganda yung technology. Grateful sya kasi talagang na-correct yung vision nya.

According to a 2005 survey, 92.2% of patients reported that they were satisfied or very satisfied with their surgery(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LASIK)

Siguro it will help a lot if you will read a few materials before deciding to go for it or not. Para more or less, you know what to expect. My friend said the Makati clinic i previously mentioned is giving reading materials explaining the procedure. I think this is helpful. If a candidate could not understand something, it is best to ask the doctors directly. They also advise their patients that the procedure is low-risk to no-risk provided you are diagnosed correctly and you follow all precautionary measures prescribed. But then again, the risk is still there.

hello Bell,
