.. while i was sitting in starbucks today , i was watching all of the people who came in for their morning coffee fix .. everyone was so different ,everyone ordered their different drinks but it was funny how these people had formed so much of a routine. they come in at the same time , order the same drink, the employees all greet them by their first name and before they can even say their drink order, the man or woman behind the counter shouts it out .. i just thought it was funny because the people were smiling . people like to be remembered and people like to be recognized and it's in such a place and in such a simple way ,that i was sort of filled with ease as i watched each person walk to the side, pick up their drink and hear "arigatou gozaimasu , o kiotsukette kudasai with a warm smile" as the employee handed their drink across the counter... whether they're not trained to say it , it makes people days. it even makes mine. just being so simple . very cool.... :)
The customers are greeted by their first names? Wow, saang branch yan?
Dito sa binibilhan kong kombini tawag sa mga customers "tsugi no okyakusama". :D

nag coffee ka nanaman? kala ko ba bawal...tsk tsk tsk :fence:
it's nice to just sit in your own little corner of the world and observe the comings and goings of things. people are such complex beings; and most of the time they defy explanation.
coffee, on the other hand, is such a predictable substance. it's one of mankind's worst addictions. and i hate it like crap!
so what's my point you're asking? nothing really...im just having a happy morning :D

Mornin' Chirs! Hope you're fine after a few notes at TF!:) Naku Chris, your friend here is a coffee addict:D It seems my day in the office isn't complete without having a cup in one day. Before i used to drink 6-7 cups of strong coffee during winter. Thanks to some heathy tips, I quit drinking. The irony, am back to this old habit, but for only one cup/day. But I wonder if what I read in a magazine was true. It says coffee aids in removing toxic wastes in the body because it is herbal. And herbs are healthful. I said, uhh really? It's for me to find out. :D Genki de ne!!

hi geminigirl, a pleasant morning to you (lunch na pala).
i have officemates who literally gulp coffee; as much as you used to drink...and brewed coffee at that. i've probably drank the stuff just a couple of times in my lifetime. i love the aroma of it, especially brewed coffee, batangas coffee and monks blend (coffee cultured ans raised by monks belonging to the monastery of the transfiguration in bukidnon province).
i can't seem to enjoy it despite the numerous product offerings in the market. i just love the aroma wafting through the air as the staff in the coffeeshops whizz by bringing cups to the tables. btw, i love iced tea! :D
i guess coffee helps in cleaning the body of some toxins...after all it is herbal.
this is not the coffee bashing thread ha, nangungulit lang po ako. :)

This is a good topic though if we have none hahaha! Iced tea is good, you bet. Am having one now after a lght lunch of vegies. Though I drink coffee mid-morning, I always take tea after a meal. Learned this habit from the Japanese. Better than smoking they say to ease digestion. It is also good for the skin and hair. And when you're sick the hot version is good di ba? Anyway I hope by this time you have recovered a bit with your brain doin' the trick :D hehehehe!! Hmmm maybe the cure is TF. Keep posting and you'll find you'd feel better all the time.....though you're missin' that special someone....:) Gambatte ne!

right about now, i'm gonna enjoy my second cup of the day, two more to go. i'm a confessed coffee addict. if there's 1 cup of tea in front of me, and another one of coffee, i'll have no second thoughts picking up the much more sinful concoction. although, i'd like to wind down my day with a soothing cup of tea, what really gets me going the whole day is coffee. my day just won't start without it.
docomo's post really got me thinking. the store staff remembering all the names of their regulars is really notable, you seldom see that happening around you nowadays. it makes you wish your "friendly" neighborhood coffeeshop would at least attempt to make the same effort. in today's world, where efficiency is top priority, even greetings become automatic although articulated in a high-pitched, brisk manner to mimic a sincere, effusive one. that makes you wanna crave from time to time for an inkling of human touch from the commercial establishments you frequent.
nice post, @docomo! as always.

.... that's one thing which makes you keep wanting to come back to a particular establishment; that sense of belonging and being welcome. aside from the particular product or service which you like, it's that feeling of being treated like a friend or family member, and not just another faceless costumer . :)

Naka relate naman po ako dito, talagang hirap magbukas o mag-open ng isang business
lalo na sa ngayon, ang daming competition. Sabi nga nila how to open it is easy, but
how to keep it open is an art. Kung gusto mo talagang balikan ka ng costumer mo..
technique lang ang kailangan at nasa puso ang serbisyo.:) me natutuhan na naman ako...nice sharing docomo san.:)

Starbucks which location po?, ;) so far and by far omotesando, tokyo outlet pa lang po ako nakakapag unwind stressing out for the greater Japan area…..where ever starbucks outlet you’ll be, there’s that homey feeling of familiarity with the people biding their time over, stepping into the watering hole at once you can spot in the faces of those seated already, the “customer’s-profile”…it’s a great place to spread work sheets along with your ordered freshly brewed coffee, hmmmm….am a coffee addict and the staffs have that personal touch in their approach towards their customer’s:cool:

u know what guys, that's one of their requirement from their crews & baristas! they really have to be friendly to their customers! that's how they gained their competitive advantage! it was our case in my strategic management subject, the story of starbucks truly deserves the time of business school students!
in any outlet that you visit, in all countries, you'd feel that atmosphere that is unique in starbucks....you're right, doc, that feeling of belonging.... i think, nowhere in any coffee shop that you'd feel that!
i remember one time, i was having coffee with a friend at starbucks near our office. the barista said he would just serve my coffee since they're still brewing. but several minutes had elapsed & i still didn't have my coffee! so i followed it up! the barista forgot my order! to make up for that, they gave me free brownies! lucky me! :)
