as i was reading doc's 'a nice day despite the weather' thread, i was thinking... coffee is such an indispensible beverage to a lot of people (well most earthlings for that matter). there are probably more people drinking coffee than people drinking water as i write this. what is it with coffee? it's a probably a billion dollar business diba? what makes it tick?

am i the only person who abhors drinking coffee  ? well, everyone seems to be enjoying theirs. and i'm not even talking about the regular cup-a-day guy.

guys, this is a fun thread ok. no fighting, no hair-pulling, no cursing (unless you just took a gulp and said, 'sh?t!, this stuff is good! allowed yun :D)

you can swig, slurp, gulp, probably even gargle it (you have to swallow it of course)

you have been forewarned. violators will be brewed! :D

i'd really appreciate the inputs on a couple of things;

- how ofter do you drink it?

- how you take it (plain, brewed, or any of those fancy shmancy flavored varieties)?

- is it your comfort drink?

- can you live without it?

disclaimer:

i am not in any way associated with starbucks, seattle's best, gloria jean's, san francisco coffee house, or any one of the numerous growers, retailers, pickers, seeds, beans and plants that has got anything to do with coffea arabica or coffea robusta.

i hate it like the plague! :p but i looooooove iced tea...lots of it!

thanks for reading...have fun!

ooopppsss...mine's getting cold now. i was talking about my soup, silly! :D

I used to drink lots of coffee when I was a smoker. I drank it black and without sugar. Drinking coffee while smoking was heaven back then. :) When I quit smoking (for the last time), drinking coffee made me want to smoke, so I also quit coffee. :D Months later when the thought of smoking was completely gone did I start drinking again. But only one or two cups a day, and this time with lots of cream and a little sugar. Sometimes I don't even drink at all.

And oh, by the way, I sometimes go to Starbucks...to drink hot cocoa. :hihi: I don't like their coffee, even when I was still a smoker. I liked Doutor's.

Chris sure I don't think you are associated with any of these businesses or stuff. It's quite interesting how a person like you who hates coffee would make a thread out of your bete-noir or dislike or shall I say aversion hehehe to coffee. Let me be the first to answer your questions okay?

How often? Once a day. But when the situation calls for another cup like when i attend meetings, discussions within the department, or preparing for my lecture....two or three cups more. (gee! am cheating!!!):D

How to take it? Brood or barako will do. In the office just plain coffee with cream and sugar. In coffee shops, I go for cafe auliat or latte.

Is it a comfort drink? For me it is. My work needs lots of brains. When I think coffee helps. I don't know if it is psychological, but when I'm tense coffee relieves/soothes me.

Can I live without it? Of course I could;) You see I believe that being addicted to a thing is only in the mind. Make your willpower work and presto!. If you really want to you can do itl. Maybe if the doctor tells me to stop or I will suffer and die, then I will.

Maraming Salamat Po Chris_Rock!!!

hehe, that's a nice way of putting it. i guess it was my way of trying to pick other people's brains (or taste buds to be more precise) to learn what is it with coffee that makes it...well, coffee ;)

thanks for your inputs guys

an acquaintance does 12 to 15 cups of extra strong (whatever that is...spiked with rhum i suppose:)) stuff. and that's only during her working hours. she says, she takes in another 3 to 5 cups after work.

told her as-a-matter-of-factly...you love coffee so much you'll come back in the next lifetime as a coffee vending machine! that's for sure :jiggy:

..i love coffee but not a coffee freak.. i like it when it bites me back :hihi:

i'd really appreciate the inputs on a couple of things;

- how ofter do you drink it?

.. i drink just when i feel like drinking it , usually 6 cups a day, caffeine seems to have no effect on me, i guess if it did i would be bouncing on the walls :D

- how you take it (plain, brewed, or any of those fancy shmancy flavored varieties)?

..i am a plain old coffee kind of person , put a little flavored creamer in it and i am good to go. actually anything will do..be it brewed or decaf ..k lang ;)

- is it your comfort drink?

..interesting fact how coffee effects me ...when i drink coffee at night ,it actually helps
me to go to sleep... weird huh? :p

- can you live without it?

.. of course i could ! it's just coffee..i'll be fine without it ;)

.. you know there's nothing better than drinking a warm cup of coffee in your favorite sweater and jeans :)

oooh....another thread on one of my life's favorite things.....coffeeeee ...
i've had my last cup for the day, so i'm pretty satisfied now.

i respect the non-coffee-drinkers, but i respect the coffee-drinkers even more
(sorry guys for being discriminating :D)

and for the questions,

- how ofter do you drink it?

----- i average 4 cups a day (1 filtered morning coffee at home, two cups of doutor americano outside, 1 filtered evening coffee at home)

- how you take it (plain, brewed, or any of those fancy shmancy flavored varieties)?

----- for those i personally filter at home, i take it black. we're using brazilian san jose beans at home right now, freshly ground at the wholesaler upon purchase. cheap beans, but very good quality - soft, only slightly bitter. but i'd kill for a cup of blue mountain any day soon. for the americano i buy at doutor's, with cream.

- is it your comfort drink?

----- most of the time. tea helps calm my nerves too.

- can you live without it?

----- nope, but i can make do with at least 1 cup a day on lean days.

for the ultimate experience, try a cup of coffee syphon-brewed - you will only get pure coffee flavor less the bitterness.

:)

Coffee? we use medium roast coffee beans,Can't stand the bitter flavor but couldn't ignore the smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning so I usually ,fill half of my cup with brewed and blend it with the same amount of milk ,no sugar .hmmmm....

Addicted ? no! I only drink once a day with a lot ,lots of milk .:)

if you're still in the experimental journey, go for quality, not quantity. avoid vending machine coffees, canned coffees, all those run-of-the-mill varieties.

try a cup at doutor's or tully's.

or, i can take you to the shop i frequent when i feel like indulging myself.....900yen for a cup of blue mountain (not the blend!).......:D :D

well, i think i'll join the club! i have been drinking coffee since my childhood days! ala eh...taga-batangas po ako....

the memories of my grandpop harvesting coffee beans (if i remember it right, he calls it robusta, looks like red cherries or even smaller) from our backyard, have them sun-dried....bring to a miller...then roast it....there! meron na kaming kape....are still fresh...

i'm not a fan of starbucks as well....from time to time...yeah...if i get invited by friends or have to meet a client.....

i'd rather brew at home using the coffee that i bought from our place....

but now, i actually prefer green tea....as in the japanese green tea! genmai-cha, the best! i just really love the aroma of the tea leaves blend with that of the rice crispies!

Warning, don't be shocked. I drink about 2 to 3 liters of black coffee per day iced or warm but never hot. I'll drink any kind of coffee but I prefer not to drink brewed coffee because I just hate how they taste. I dont drink alcohol but I do drink other beverages like colas, fruit juces, water, but only once in a blue moon and its black coffee for me all day round. I like Nescafe Regular and I keep heap loads of stock. I dont like going to coffee shops because one dumb amateur once told me that he makes very good coffee blah, blah, blah and tried to educate me but he just didn't know that back in the Phil. we have our own coffee trees and I do know how to plant, harvest, and prepare coffee and I have to pay 500Yen for something that taste like a stinkin sock soaked in hot water and he didn't know that my blood taste like coffee :D
Sometimes I gargle and brush my teeth with coffee (no joke).

:p i envy people who (can) drink coffee.......it looks very adult to me.but i also wonder how can they drink it.......aggh....it' s so bitter!when i was in elementary,i got addicted to it for a while though.drank iced or hot esp. after school, with lots of sugar.i only drink Blend 45.i stopped coz it gave me palpitations.
i still keep some coffee around in the house now,for friends.sooooooometi mes,i'll have a cup with them......but i only use Nescafe's PRESIDENT.its the only coffee i can take bec. it doesn't leave a sour after taste in the mouth........which i hate about coffee.when i drink coffee,i always have it with lots of sugar and milk.i prefer iced tea.....
