COUPLES who want to tie the knot with skeletons in their closets must think twice before exchanging “I dos.”The Supreme Court is considering a clearance from the National Statistics Office (NSO) as additional wedding requirement to address the growing cases of unlawful multiple marriages in the country.
The "Certification of No Impediment to Marry" from the NSO will be asked before a marriage is solemnized, the high tribunal said in a two-page resolution.

Nice move for the Supreme Court.Dapat talaga required ang Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage as a prerequisite to contracting the matrimony.Sa Phils. kasi, hindi required ang CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage Record). It is only essential if you want to be certain that the civil status of the person you are marrying is still single and that he or she is unattached. So if you have doubts regarding the civil status of your future spouse, it might be a good idea to procure a CENOMAR.

At times, a CENOMAR may be required by certain parishes. It may also be required if your future spouse is applying for a fiancee visa in your behalf. Moreover, Philippine embassies may also require a CENOMAR for Filipino nationals who wish to get married in a foreign country or in the Philippine Embassy within the foreign country. Mostly iyong mga FIlipino lang who are going to marry foreigners ang hinihingan nito eh.

Mas maganda nga siguro kung implemented ito all throughout the country.

The additional requirement being considered is not to penalize existing violators, but to stop the number of unlawful multiple marriages from increasing. In other words, "kankei nai" sa mga dati nang polygamists. I agree that nothing will happen if nobody complains/reports them to the authorities. But that is another topic althogether. :)

well....well....well , I just got married 5 months back....requirements were raining thank God we made it after all. Though it was really like a traffic jam obtaining NSO certified documents and CENOMAR, it was worth taking for! PERO, negosyo talaga to I agree na pandagdag pondo nila to, what happened was sobrang dami kasi sa city applying for this CENOMAR, birth certificate authentication by NSO and rararararararara NSO related stuffs, the lady at the counter directed me to "another government office" somewhere far but the processing would take 3 days kasi para silang official fixer! grabe talaga ka corrupt! and of course I and my husband would prefer the quickest, we went there and we paid x3 from the original rate...anyhow thanks God we make it thru!
