View Full Version : Rikaichan extension for Firefox
firefoxFor websurfers using the opensource Firefox browser, Rikaichan is a nifty extension that will let you translate Nihongo words on the fly. Just hover your pointer over the word and a popup will appear with the original word in kanji and hiragana and an English translation. Very cool!
Installation instructions: 1. Assuming you're already using Firefox, hop over to Polarcloud.com's website (http://www.polarcloud.com/rikaichan/). 2. Click on the install link on the Download area near the bottom of the page. 3. Click on the install link of the Japanese-English dictionary. (If you get an error message saying Firefox prevented installation, you have to edit your options.) 4. Restart Firefox.

1 File (On the menu bar of Firefox, or simply Alt+F)
2 Import (or simply I)
3 Select the items you want to import
I've been using Firefox beacause it is presumably safer than IE.
But some hompages have trouble with it, then I use IE or Netscape.

Doesn't work on my firefox.
I've installed and restarted firefox as instructed. Went to a Japanese site to test it but did not work. Popups are not blocked in my firefox settings.

Good evening Firipinjin,
At first, I thought it is not working with mine too. Then I tried Tools tab, and switched between 'Toggle with rikaichan and Lookup with rikaichan".
It worked:)
@Reon,
After installing other cool extensions, I ended up downloading more themes as well.
Thanks;)

Not sure why but I don't have those options under the tools tab after successfully installing rikaichan and restarting firefox.

Na transfer ko na yung favorites files. salamat. Pero hindi ko lang alam kung papano mo e separate yung files. Like in IE na may organizer, yung sa left pwede mo lang e click ang mga folder at lalabas naman yung mga detail na website sa right. Sa firefox mayroon din kaya yun? kasi napaka inconvenience pag wala..
sige salamat ulit..

Wala sa palagay ko.
>kasi napaka inconvenience pag wala..
Ganun ba..
When I use IE, I don’t use that function.
Sapagkat I usually enlarge the font (Ctr + +), the organizer is jama desu ne.
I just click (Alt + B) the Bookmark and select my favorite page.
By the way, my favorite pages are:
Wikipedia English (encyclopedia)
Abante Tonite (news)
Abante ONLINE(news)
Google (search)
Yahoo Asia (news)
Yahoo Japan (map, TV, auction)
IMDb (movie information)

Am not sure kung ganito ang tinutukoy mo Lapu_lapu san. Subukan mo lang.
Like Puting tainga, madalas ko rin gamitin ang text size dahil masyadong maliit ang text sa screen gawa ng setting ko sa resolution. Pwede rin dito ang Ctrl+scroll button ng mouse.
Mas mahusay kung malaki ang LCD mo kung gagamitin ang organizer.

Ooops, sorry, arimashita. Thanks, crsipee.
Belated editing is:
(Delete "Wala sa palagay ko.")
Heto po.
Alt+v (View), then e (sidebar), then select BookMark

nasolve mo na ba problem mo? may solution kasi ako, nangyari kasi to sa kin (ngayon ko lang nabasa tong thread na to, sobra recommendable sa mga nihongo lovers or users or speakers etc..) eniwei regarding sa sol, 2 kasi ang dapat mong idownload... yung main program and isang dictionary, yung pinakataas sa lahat ng downloadables ay yung main rikachan...sna mainstall mo na rin ;)
