hello to all by the way shitsurei shimasu i havent introduced my self well the first time i visited this site i answered one of our kababayan`s concern not knowing that im just a new member and have not a formal introduction to all TF members sorry for that hope you dont mind :D

im just about 4months old here in Japan with a japanese spouse visa honestly speaking im having a hard time in adjusting my lifestyle here one of the major problem that i have encounter here is their language. i studied nihongo back in our country (Firifin) as they called here in Japan but i think this is not enough especially in my place they speak different kind of Nihongo they called it the "Hogen Kotoba" i am really confused of all this things and so shocked that the country im dreaming of before is the same country that i beginning to hate.

well just an introduction for this message :D i know the thread is for business and the main topic of course is business...my concern is this...im planning to put up a small business (since i cant get a job because i cant speak fluent japanese) like teaching english let say a tutor wherein i can use my house for teaching venue...the problem is i dont know how to start, im afraid because i dont have any idea on how to invite students and convince their parents that i can teach their child the english language in a minimum payment compared with the other gaijin. i want to be productive here in Japan if i cant find a job because i do not no yet their language maybe i can start by this thing.

please help any advise from the "veterans" here in Japan...i would appreciate any help you could give me, thank you!

more power to all!!!!

i am really glad that we have this kind of site in the web "purely pinoy"! mabuhay tayong lahat mga kababayan ko!

Hi. Welcome to Timog Forum.

If it will make you feel better, everybody who comes to Japan for sure experiences the difficulty that you are in now. The good news is, it is an opportunity as well. I know many kababayans who continuously study Japanese language for years and try to understand the culture too. At some point, they are starting to reap the rewards. Gambatte kudasai.

As for your plan to do English tutorial, I have no information for you based on my actual experience or those that I know. So this is just a mere opinion.

I guess you will need the support of your family here. Someone who knows Nihongo has to help you make leaflets describing the tutorial service the you can give in some details. Same with inviting/convincing the parents, I guess it is more effective if your family can help/support you. I will assume that most of the initial interaction will be in Nihongo. I guess you also need to have ample English teaching materials. Those will surely help when you try to sell your service. It is better to be able to show them what they can expect for their children to learn.

Another thing, whatever business is difficult to start, and things get easier as you get used to lots of things involved. Good luck!!

You have only been in Japan for 4 months. If you want to be productive, you should invest your time studying Japanese because once you are capable of holding a conversation with a local, opportunities to work will start opening up. I presume you have all the time in the world so you should use it wisely. Your husband will be there to support you financially I guess.

As for the english tutoring work, I had a friend who also did the same. Initially, he started making A4 sized announcements of his english business. He posted a few 'flyers' at the free bulletin board of his local supermaket. You can also reprint hundreds of smaller fyers and do the rounds of visiting apartments/danchis/ or even private homes and inserting a flyer in their mailbox just like what those pesky real estate salesmen or pizza delivery boys do.

thanks for the advice. firifingin you are right i really need to study nihongo because i have no choice japan people are not that ready for english conversation.
as for the tutorial thing i already talked with my husband and he advised me that i should start sorting and gathering materials for teaching english language, as for the venue we have to discuss it first with the house owner because as of now we are just renting the place. he said the idea is good but i have to exert more time in studying nihongo so i can do the business. as for the moment im doing my homework for i want to start the business soon. hope everything will comes out right. hai gambarimasu...

when i was in hiroshima wherein i just started working here in japan naisipan ko ring magturo ng english for additional income since pinagbabawalan kami mag arubaito. ang ginawa ko non is very simple. i go to the central library there and napansin ko na maraming hapon na nagaaral ng english. so ang ginawa ko eh, i started talking to them in english. and they like it kasi yon ang lack sa kanila eh. english conversation. bawat punta ko don eh may nakikilala ko and i offer them my teaching service. within 1 month, meron na kong students at don nag start pumasok ang additional income ko. even im here in tokyo now, im doing it.

so my advise to you to start your english teaching career is go to the library near in your place. apply for membership on it, and start to talk to japanese who are studying english. i think its very fun kasi tuturuan ka rin nila ng japanese. o di ba two birds in one tirador. i think makakakuha ka agad ng student kasi babae ka pa lalo kaya di sila masyado maiilang. try mo, and i can say that it will be a succesful one. BALATO ko ha pag meron kang nakuha. :D

He he he tawa naman ako noon sa last message mo,actually while reading your post parang feel ko ako ikaw, ganun din kasi noon, yun naging feeling ko ,pero masasanay ka rin.Gambatte!!!:D

By the way,Im kokorokara at your service.tama sila you gather first English materials, kung baga sa giyera kailangan kompleto ka ng bala at armas:D bago sumugod kasi may mga students din na mga matatalino at minsan susubukan ka nila if you really good lalo na hindi tayo native English speaker, pero subukan mo muna sa mga kids kasi susunod lang naman yun sa mga sasabihin mo.More Power!

..hi Mikan san, tama si Firipinjin... dapat engage yourself in studying nihonggo para mas maging confident ka wherever you go in Japan at pag a mkikipagUsap ka sa iba...
