Whenever a new championship is played the oldest championship of that category drops out. The FIBA Ranking is then recalculated.

RP scraps basketball from SEA Games
From: www.abs-cbnnews.com (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/)
Basketball-crazy Philippines has yanked the sport from the upcoming 23rd Southeast Asian Games for the first time in the history of the bi-annual sports event, an official said Thursday.
The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) decided to cancel hoops for the Games later this month after failing to secure backing from the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), POC chairman Roberto Aventajado told AFP.
FIBA in June banned the Philippine team from tournaments it sanctions after the POC expelled the local Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP), the sole member association recognized by the world sporting body.
Aventajado said the expulsion of BAP was meant to pave the way for the reorganization of the country's basketball program, after poor performances of national teams in past international tournaments.
"The present situation in Manila prohibits us from holding basketball games given that the FIBA-recognized association which is the BAP was expelled by the POC," Aventajado told AFP.
"This is the first time in the Southeast Asian Games' history" that basketball won't be played, he said, adding that he was to leave later Thursday to inform the Games council in Bangkok of the development.
A last-minute compromise being worked out among the organizations concerned failed to materialize, and so "we can't do anything about it."
Aventajado said that the BAP had failed to spur the growth of basketball, considered a national sport in this former American colony.
"From a powerhouse 20 years ago, we are now cellar-dwellers. Countries which we used to beat easily have been beating us by over 40 or 60 points. So our suspension of BAP was a matter of principle."
"Now FIBA is asking us to look the other way and allow BAP participation," in the Southeast Asian Games. "We can't do that. It's better we bite the bullet now and completely reform local basketball."
Some 7,000 athletes from 11 Southeast Asian countries are expected to participate in the games to begin on November 27. A total of 441 gold medals are up for grabs in 41 events.

Lina still hoping for basketball unity
By Peter Atencio, Manila Standard Today
June 20, 2006
The Basketball Association of the Philippines is opening its doors to the professional league and commercial groups.
BAP president Joey Lina revealed this yesterday after the BAP held a congress to discuss new amendments to its charter.
Because of changes imposed on its constitution and by-laws, Lina said the BAP is now inviting the stakeholders of Pilipinas Basketball into a series of discussions on what could be done to unify the sport.
"We are willing to talk to them. We are going to meet with them now that the charter has been relaxed on professional, commercial and other collegiate organizations," stated Lina.
During the congress, Lina said basketball officials present clarified matters surrounding the formation and training of the national team.
Discussions concerning the national team were raised, one week after Lina returned from the Fiba Asia Congress in Kuwait.
During the congress, Fiba officials unanimously approved a resolution which called for the Central Board of the international governing body for basketball to lift the suspension slapped on the Philippines last year.
The Fiba Central Board, the world basketball organization's highest governing body, is slated to convene in August in Japan.
By then, Lina believes the Central Board will decide finally on the appeal to lift the suspension. Once lifted, the BAP will again have a big say in the composition of the national squad.

Basketball Players
Basketball is arguably the most loved sports in the Philippines. Despite the lack in height, Filipinos have dominated basketball in Southeast Asia and formed world competitive teams in the 1950s.
The Philippines performed well in its participation in the Olympic basketball event from the 1930s to the 1950s and placed third in the 1954 World Basketball Championship (WBC) held in Brazil.
Basketball has produced four Asiad gold medals for the Philippines. The country also won the Asian Basketball Conference (ABC) championships in 1960, 1963, 1967, 1973 and 1986 and the William Jones Cup International Basketball Tournament in 1986 and 1998.
The Philippine basketball team, composed of Philippine Basketball League (PBL) players, has also won the ABC Champions Cup four times: 1984, 1988, 1995 and 1996.
The Philippines Basketball Association (PBA), widely considered the first and oldest professional basketball league in the Asian region, is also the country's number one spectator event.
Olympic Participation
The Philippine basketball team that placed fifth in the basketball event of the 1936 Olympic Games during the Nazi rule in Berlin, Germany, should have won at least a bronze medal, if not for a controversial ruling. Despite winning four of its five games, the country did not bring home any medal. It lost only to the United States, which eventually clinched the gold medal, but defeated Mexico, Estonia, Italy and Uruguay. The members of that fabled 1936 Philippine basketball team were Ambrosio Padilla (team captain), who later became a senator; Charles Borck, who at 6'1" was the tallest in the team; Jacinto Ciria Cruz, Primitivo Martinez, Jesus Marzan, Franco Marquicias, Fortunato Yambao, Amador Obondo, Bibjano Quano and Johnny Worrel.
The Philippine basketball team also performed superbly well in its other Olympic participations, including placing 12th at the 1948 London Olympics, 7th at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, and 11th at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
World Basketball Championship
The Philippine basketball team, captained by Carlos Loyzaga, placed third in the World Basketball Championship (WBC) held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1954. The Philippines beat the favored Uruguay team, 67-63, to clinch the third place on November 5, 1954, which was to become the greatest mark in the history of Philippine basketball. As expected, the U.S. team won the title against the host Brazil.
Loyzaga was chosen as a member of the Mythical Five - the world's best basketball players in 1954. His teammates included Lauro Mumar, Florentino Bautista and Mariano Tolentino.
In 1959, the Philippines also placed 9th at the WBC held in Chile.
Asian Basketball
The Philippine basketball team won the title in the first Asian Basketball Conference (ABC) championship held in Manila in 1960. It duplicated the feat in 1963, 1967, 1973, 1986 and 1996. Basketball has also produced four consecutive Asiad gold medals for the Philippines. The country won the basketball gold in the 1951 New Delhi Asiad, 1954 Manila Asiad, 1958 Tokyo Asiad, and 1962 Jakarta Asiad. The Philippine basketball team, composed of professional celebrities, won a silver medal in the 1990 Asiad, and a bronze medal in 1998 Asiad. The country was the consistent winner in the basketball event at the Southeast Asian Games.
Carlos "The Big Difference" Loyzaga
There was something in common in the country's third place finish in the 1954 World Basketball championship, its four consecutive gold medals in the Asian Games from 1951 to 1962, and its good performance in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and 1960 Rome Olympics. The common thing was Carlos Loyzaga, who was ironically dubbed as the "Big Difference" of Philippine basketball.
A two-time Olympian, Loyzaga, the team captain, was responsible for steering the fabled Philippine team to third place finish in the World Basketball Championship in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on November 5, 1954. He was named to the Mythical Selection for his sterling performance because he was the third best individual scorer in the world event. The Philippines beat Uruguay, 67-63 to win the third place. The title was won by the United States against Brazil.
Loyzaga was the first basketball player to be inducted into the National Basketball Hall of Fame.
Hall of Famers
As of 2002, there are 22 basketball players enshrined into the Hall of Fame. Aside from Loyzaga, other basketball players who have been named to the National Basketball Hall of Fame since 1999 include Kurt Bachmann, Carlos Badion, Narciso Bernardo, Charlie Borck, Ramoncito Campos, Loreto Carbonell, Jacinto Ciria-Cruz, Geronimo Cruz, Fely and Gabby Fajardo, Tony Genato, Rafael Hechanova, Eddie Lim, Alfonso (Boy) Marquez, Antonio and Primitivo Martinez, Lauro Mumar, Ed Ocampo, Ambrosio Padilla, Mariano Tolentino, and Francisco Vestil.

Anyway lapu-lapu san...

Add ko lng ha...
1990 silver medal - coach by R. Jaworski
1994 bronze medal - san miguel team ang core nya and nag add ng ibang players
1998 bronze medal - the "centennial team" our own version ng dream team.. pero we ended short
2002 4th place - eto ang pinaka aabangan sana, the most prepared national team ever... nakpasok sana tayo sa finals against china pero hindi naipasok ni racela ang two (2) free throws nya with less than 10secs left in the final quarter to secure a 4 point lead... ayun di nga na ishot ang 2 free throws at na rebound ng korea at binato sa 3 point area! swaaaaacccckkkk!!!!! aaaarrrrrrrraaaaaaaa aaaayyyyyyyy!!!! TALO TAYO BY ONE (1) POINT!!!
Philippine Basketball... kawaii so.... :weep: :nono:

Habang may Buhay may pag asa.. Dati 3rd tayo, baka balang araw or 10 years from now, first na tayo...

kung mag seseryoso talga ang Pilipinas sa international campaign, number 2 talga tau sa asia and expert says that we can even beat china lalo na pag lagi natin sila nakakalaro...
alam mo ba sa line-up ng pilipinas dati nung panahon ni caloy loyzaga ang pinakamalaki eh 6"1' lng... and still they made number 4 sa 1954 world championships at number 9 sa sumunod na olympics... maybe height is might now a days pero team work beats even the tallest mountain...

Play No. 1:
Ilabas mo bola at shoot ko.
Play No. 2:
Isolation Play para sa akin.
Play No. 3:
Coast to Coast Play.:D
Ayos na TEAM WORK yan. Hehehehe.....

1. Motion Offence
2. Zone Buster
3. High Post
4. 1-4
at marami pang iba.....
Hehehe..........

well, im still looking forward for our basketball team

Yung ball handler natin usaually 5'11 up to 6'4.. hindi masyadong matangkad.
>strategy
>teamwork
>good defense
>more offense
Ginagawa nila ang dirty play or tricks.

salmat sa info.. actually its an ironic win by our team philippines... gawa ng napakarami nilang error... on the other side the australian team competing is the 19-under team and not the one who will be seeing in the coming World Championship... anyway it was a very good news... their final four hope is still alive....:)

sori pero malabong mag kamedalysa sila sa World Championship maski sa Olympics sa ngayong panahon or maski na in 10 to 15 years time...
Kung kasali daw tau we expert said that we can place 3rd or even 2nd...:):D

TAIWAN (Jones Cup Final Day) - Athletes in Action, representing USA, beat home team Taiwan NT Sunday night in the 2006 Jones Cup tournament title game, 79-69.

Kazakhstan beat Philippines 98-86 to win the fifth-place. Isakov Evgeni and Arwind Santos were both ejected for confrontation when fighting for rebounding position.

Asian NBA History
1947: Wataru Misaka
Wataru Misaka ("Wat Misaka") is officially the first Asian to play in the NBA. From Utah college, he was a Japanese American point guard (5'7") who was on the 1947-1948 New York NBA team roster. He played a total of 3 games in his NBA career. Over 50 years later: Updated article on Wat Misaka (http://www.nba.com/features/global_misaka_010417 .html)
1981: Yasutaka "Chibi" Okayama
A towering 7'10" Japanese basketball player from the University of Osaka in Japan. He was selected by the Golden State Warriors in the 8th round in the 1981 draft. However, he never showed up in America during the NBA season, so he has no offical NBA playing stats.
1987: Song Tao
Song Tao was selected by the Atlanta Hawks in the 3rd round of the 1987 draft. He was a 6'10" forward on the Chinese National Basketball team. However, a knee injury during a pre-season NBA game ended his NBA career prematurely.
1995: Ma Jian
The Chinese American, 6'7" forward was a starter on the Utah college basketball team. He made it to the 1995 L.A. Clippers pre-season roster. However, he was the last player to be trimmed from the regular-season roster, and has been playing in the Chinese basketbal leagues since.
1997: Ri Myong Hun
More than a dozen NBA teams expressed interest in signing the 7'9" Ri Myong Hun (also known as Michael Ri) from North Korea, when he tried to enter the NBA as a free agent. However, unfavorable diplomatic relations between North Korea and the United States prevented Ri from entering the U.S.A and joining the NBA.
1999: Wang Zhizhi
The Dallas Mavericks selected Wang Zhizhi in the second round (36th pick overall) of the 1999 NBA Draft. His first game wasn't until April 5, 2001, because of commitments with the Chinese National basketball team.
2000: Hu Weidong
Hu Weidong, a 6'6" shooting guard nicknamed "Chinese Jordan", was offered a 10-day short-term contract with the Orlando Magic, but Hu got injured at practice in China and didn't go.
2002: Mengke Bateer
The Denver Nuggets signed Menk Bateer on Feb. 26, 2002 as a free agent. His first game was on Feb. 27, 2002 against Golden State. An estimated 400 million Chinese viewers tuned in on March 3, 2002 when Bateer (Nuggets) faced Wang (Mavericks) as the game was broadcast live in China on CCTV.
2002: Yao Ming
The Houston Rockets selected Yao Ming as the number one overall draft pick.
2002: Hsin-an (Sean) Chen
Sean Chen, a Taiwanese point guard (6'5"), was on the Sacramento Kings pre-season roster. He got cut from the regular season roster.
2003: Xue Yuyang
Dallas Mavericks drafted 7'0" center Xue Yuyang 2nd round, 57th pick overall, and immediately traded him to Denver Nuggets on the draft day.
2003: Yuta Tabuse
Yuta Tabuse, a 5'9" point guard from Japan, was invited to Denver Nuggets training camp and played NBA pre-season games. He also represented Dallas Mavericks in the Summer League. Got cut from the regular season roster.
So far , wala pang Pinoy na nakapasok sa NBA.. Sino kaya ang makapasok? Mayroon kaya? Tingnan natin....
