I tried using 1394/firewire connection to capture video from videocam to PC. But, eventhough my PC confirms that 1394 port is enable, my PC couldn't detect my videocam.

I would like to ask those who experienced this problem. What should I do? Below is the list of hardware and software I'm using.

Videocam : Sony DCR-PC350
PC: AMD Athlon XP 2500, RAM 1GB
MB (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe), onboard firewire
OS: Windows XP Home SP2 (upgraded from SP1)
Video Editing OS: Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, Windows Movie Maker,
InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2

Here are my assumptions regarding the problem.

HW:
1. Cradle : I used the USB port but, no problem
2. Firewire cable : I've just bought a new cable from a reliable maker
3. PC firewire : first time to use this and couldn't connect....MOST PROBABLY THE PROBLEM
4. PC system : has enough power & memory
5. Handycam setting : set to DV output for firewire not USB

SW:
1. Encoding/Authoring software : no problem (firewire capable)
2. OS : have read that XP SP2 have firewire problem. .....MOST PROBABLY THE PROBLEM

What do you think?

Thanks.

im not sure if gets ko ng tama ang question mo but im using 1394/firewire to play videos from my videocam to my laptop.plug n play lang sya.

my laptop is a sony vaio pcg-fr77 j/b.my handycam is dcr hc-40.i use the handycam OEM picture package software in burning vcds.cable na gamit ko ay 4pm-4pm.

in viewing the captured video mula sa videocam sa laptop monitor,kini-klik ko lang yung imaging device drive pag open sa my computer.

os is home edition.not upgraded sa sp2.

@ PACIFIC_GP

..can you check the firewire technical specs of both the laptop and the camera.your video device could be a firewire 800 (1394b) which is another variant of the 1394 standard.

kindly refer to http://support.microsoft.co m/kb/885222

hope this helps :)

docomo,

thanks sa payo. nagawa ko na rin ang patch na sinasabi mo changing the sidspeed from 2 to 3 and 1 pero wala ring effect. well, last option ko ay ibalik sa sp1 version ang firewire driver ko (very risky dahil sa security holes).

i'll check later the firewire version of both my PC and videocam.

@PACIFIC_GP

.. here is another link which shows the how to revert to the old sp1 files
http://www.rme-audio.com/english/techinfo/fw800sp2.htm

.. this is assuming that indeed your video device is 1394b compliant .

hope this helps :)

docomo,

my hardware are both standard 1394a (400Mbps) with 4-pin (videocamera) and 6- pin (PC). i've read that reverting to sp1 firewire driver is also effective for standard firewire. well, i guess this is my last option....i'll do this task this weekend just in case something goes wrong i'll back up everything and have plenty of time to tweak. :)

http://www.videredesign.com/xp2_workaround.htm

do you have any suggestions? do you think using a PCI firewire card will solve the problem? i'm also thinking of bringing this videocam to yodobashi camera since i bought it there.

thanks.

not docomo...

there's always the tradeoff between buying something...and doing the tweaks. i guess the best thing to do for now is bring your laptop and your video device to the shop for testing.

but that's just me...

chris_rock,
thanks for the advice but, my hw is not a laptop it's a desktop pc. :(

ouch! you can lug the cpu down to the shop :D

or tweak the files na nga lang :)

yeah, i'll revert the driver to sp1 version this weekend and if nothing happened my last option is to bring my videocam to a store.
....well, probably it's time to buy mac. :)

i just downgraded to sp1 (1394 driver) and still my pc can't recognize my videocam. i'm now lost.
i called sony this morning and asked for advice, i was told that the most probable cause is pc(hw) > pc (sw) > videocam. i can send my videocam to sony for free check up.

could the fw cable be the culprit?

i called sony this morning and asked for advice, i was told that the most probable cause is pc(hw) > pc (sw) > videocam. i can send my videocam to sony for free check up.Di ba may analog out yung videocam mo?

chris_rock,
ang the most possible cause ay pc hw and firewire cable. palitan ko ang binili kong firewire. then, bili na rin ako ng murang pci 1394 card sa yahoo auction.

hi! try this.. i check mo yung BIOS mo.naka "disable" yata yung firewire mo kaya d mo magamit.ASUS yung MB right? dapat naka "enable" or "auto" yung conf. mo sa firewire mo.if u dont know how to do it, here it is.. BUT DONT MODIFIED ANYTHING, JUST YOUR "FIREWIRE" ..

1.restart your computer, press "delete" during the power-on self test(POST) to enter the "Set up utility".(BIOS)
you should see like this..

http://www.timog.com/forum/attachment.php?attac hmentid=3616&stc=1&d=1151168497

click mo yung "Advanced" menu ,search mo "Integrated Peripherals" and click.you should see this..kung naka "disable" yung firewire mo, just "enable" it or "auto"

http://www.timog.com/forum/attachment.php?attac hmentid=3617&stc=1&d=1151169766

after that..click mo yung EXIT, and "EXIT AND SAVE CHANGES" ...enjoy!

i hope this helps...:D

Hi!,

I pressume ang manual nyan eh japanese ? kase ako meron din sony DCR-PC101 NTSC na Mini DV rin at japanese pa. Kaso i haven't tried using firewire IEEE1394 (iLink) yet Check mo rin yung compatibility ng PC at camcorder mo. Click here (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/model-documents.pl?mdl=DCR PC350&region_id=1)

Hope this helps.. :D

Hi!

I-summarize ko ang mga ginawa kong testing regarding this problem.

1. Problem : PC couldn't recognize videocam for video capturing

2. Hardware specs :

Videocam : Sony DCR-PC350 (English version)
PC: AMD Athlon XP 2500, RAM 1GB
MB (Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe), onboard firewire
OS: Windows XP Home SP2 (upgraded from SP1) English version
Video Editing OS: Roxio Easy Media Creator 7, Windows Movie Maker,
InterVideo WinDVD Creator 2

3. Testing made

HW:
1. Videocam/Cradle : I used the USB port but, no problem. I asked Sony center and told me that having a failed (firewire) cradle or videocam is the least possible.
2. Firewire cable : new & from reliable maker but, still might be cause.
3. PC firewire : first time to use this and couldn't connect....MOST PROBABLY THE PROBLEM
4. PC system : has enough power & memory

SW:
1. Encoding/Authoring software : no problem (firewire capable)
2. OS : have read that XP SP2 have firewire problem. But, had reverted to SP1 (1394 driver) and still the problem exist. So, SP version is not the problem.
SETTING:
1. Handycam setting : set to DV output for firewire not USB
2. PC setting : BIOS (1394 is auto), Device manager (1394 is enabled w/o problem), Port (front and back port properly connected to the MB)

4. NEXT MOVE
1. Replace firewire cable
2. Install new PCI firewire card (Sony-made)
3. Other options : buy video capture card and do an analog capture (personally, I don't want to do this)

Kung may iba pa kayong payo I will appreciate it very much. Thanks.

Thank you all for your advice. Finally, the problem was solved by installing a new PCI firewire card.

Now I'm capturing and editing my videos. :)
