Specially for those of us who have been in this country for a long time, naiintindihan na ba talaga natin ang Japan o ang mga Hapon.
What do you think are the things that can be done to achieve a better understanding of this country and her people and hence live a better life in this country.

if you have respect of their culture then you'll learn to accept things, accept their behaviors, accept their ideologies, then through these or should i say, eventually, you will have the notions, why they have become a prosperous nation.:)

Or at least do not resist.
These are general ways.
1/ what is one's expected action when receiving otsuugen.
o kaya nenmatsu hagaki
2/ ganon din yong greetings and gifts sa kapitbahay, pag bagong lipat
3/ how does one establish relationships with Japanese (aside from own family)
neighbors, colleagues, business associates

Summer gift ( ochuugen ) is given between July 1 to 15, yung oseibo is given
between Dec. 1- 20 yata. gifts are exchange between relatives, close friends
and good neighbors. Yung nengajo ( christmas card sa atin ) as farewell or
When you receive a gift , you're suppose to give a return gift (okaeshi) worth
3/ how does one establish relationships with Japanese (aside from own family)
neighbors, colleagues, business associates
diyan..kailangan puso.pakikisama.paki ramdam..;)
Naseperate ang sagot ng no.3 (gomen, bakit kaya)

I`m a sweet person ..kaya medyp PDA kami ng nihonjin kong asawa kahit nasa labas or Mall.(pero moderate lang hindi malaswa)...sa pinas.
I believe dito sa Japan hindi pwede yung ganoon..Hindi pwede yung PDA (Public Display of Affection) sa mall or establishments...at karamihan ng nihonjin gusto nila na private yung amai amai syempre.ok lang saken..Kahit nga magkoibito na nihonjin bihira o wala akong nakikita na magkaakbay or Holding hands..mga Braziljin lang naman malalaswa sa japan..di na nahiya naghahalikan sa michi ng machi..gommen..totoo naman kase.Peace!:)

it''s pretty simple to blend yourself in Japan, i don't have any Filipino friends over there quiet surprising my friends are my hubby's circle of friends...just be yourself, be humble, be submissive to their culture and traditions it won't do you bad if you're sending off your respect and above all what I believe BE ONE OF THEM!!!! There's a saying "When you're in Rome do What the Romans do"...seemingly the same can be applied in Japan to live in harmony with the locals:)

Hi, d_southpaw, aside from learning their language, I tried blending with them, talking to them, in this way I know some of their thoughts, things that matter most to them, I can also get an idea how they perceive, or how they deal on something.
Katulad kung naka-receive ka ng gift mula sa kaibigan, they'll expect a gift in return. A simple thank you note will do no good to them, pero kapag binigyan mo sila ng kawaii na gift, siguro don ma a- appreciate nila.
I find time to participate in both school and community activities, sabi nga ni Hayaren kanina "When you're in Rome do What the Romans do" no excuses, period.
Reading articles about their culture, society and people also helps me a lot. Well, these is all my opinion.:)
