The Philippine Banaue Rice Terraces is declared as one of UNESCO`s world heritage site because of the marvelous work of hand of the indigenous people. However, this famous rice terraces recently has shown signs of deterioration. The ifugao culture is also changing. The Ifugao people and the Filipino people as a whole are trying desperately to remedy the situation, that is, preserving the rich culture of the Ifugao and also the Banaue Rice Terraces. Can they avoid the change that is happening now? How? This is the point of emphasis of my presentation.
First, let us consider the typical Ifugao`s life.
(イフガオ人々の生活)
We can deduce from what has shown that Ifugao people live a simple farm life but the society is already evolving. And modernization has already taken place by way of the modern instruments brought to their village. The young Ifugao are particularly attracted to the way of life in the city enjoying the luxury of modern technology and the looks of jeans fashion dresses than their traditional "G-strings" costumes.
Next let us peek at the Ifugao`s interesting culture.
(イフガオ人々の文化)
This culture has been handed down from generation to generation and is said to be closely associated with the rice terraces. Now that the rice terraces is deteriorating , there is a clear manifestation that the Ifugao culture is also slowly regressing. But we can`t just blame whoever to be blamed. Because if we would look at the the present situation and the Ifugao, there are a lot of factors to be considered before making a judgment.
(現在直面して問題)
The Ifugao situation is only one of the problems of today that needs to be given attention. Various efforts have been applied by both the local and international community to address the need of the Ifugao in preserving their culture. And also the Banaue Rice Terraces. Reports said that they are in progress. The future of the Ifugao could be in doubt but we are hopeful. Well, only time can tell.
