What can we do to assure that our love is unselfish love?
How can we identify unselfish love?
Can you share your unselfish love?
Here's one unselfish love:
Honesty
Unselfish love starts from honesty. The history of selfish love is the history of dishonesty. According to biblical account of the fall of man, the human fall is associated with dishonesty. The woman listened to the lie of the serpent rather than the truth of God. Regardless of how we interpret this story, there is a profound truth expressed here. Dishonesty destroys love and breeds mistrust.
If you love someone, you must first be honest with them. Honesty brings trust and an environment where love can flourish.:)

Purity
Unselfish love is pure. An unselfish person must preserve purity of heart towards his or her spouse. This requires complete fidelity, tragically lacking in many marriages today. The loss of purity brought about by immoral conduct is poison to the marriage relationship, which is the center of family life.
In the same way, we must maintain purity of heart in all of our relationships. The patriot is the man who keeps a pure heart of devotion to his country. The saint and true child of God is the man who keeps purity of heart towards God.:)

Compassion
Unselfish love is compassionate. The compassionate heart is generous and forgiving. This type of attitude naturally creates harmony and unity, while cold-heartedness causes separation and friction. No one wants to be treated without feeling. We are not computers; our value cannot be measured by our efficiency.
The greatest expressions of human compassion are sincere tears shed out of love for one another. This is the most beautiful thing in the world.

Totoo, at nagpapasalamat ako ng malaki dahil isa na ako sa recipient ng kanyang pagtitiis, although, hindi naman napaka-gross ang nagawa kong mga kasalanan (my human view), still mali pa rin.
But we should understand too, that God is both merciful and severe, we can read that from many occassions in the Old Testament, and the last upcoming Judgement Day.....
babalikan ko na lang ulit ito, may tawag ako sa phone...

Baka si Love mo yung nasa phone....di kaya?:)
I'm also repenting that I could not give comfort to God's grieving heart (Gen. 6:6) inspite of the blessing, guidance, protection and life that my family & I received.
Truly God is grieving and severe as we read Gen. 6:6, because of the sinful act of man or our first ancestor that God came to the point that He will destroy man including the creation.
God is also merciful as we read Ezekiel 18:23 & 33:11, if we repent and turn from our evil ways.:halo:

Nice & heartwarming thread.
Hi! again:)
Thank you once again for your inspiring word and for sharing your unselfish love.
We should also offer most of all our unselfish love to God, the creator. In order that we might comfort His grieving heart even at least a little.
As Jesus said, Love the Lord God with all our heart, mind and soul, and love your neighbor as yourself.:halo:

Service
Unselfish love is expressed in service.
The final test of unselfishness is willingness to serve.
That service brings joy.
Service is an act of giving.
We give our knowledge, talent, time, effort and heart when we serve others.
Only when we serve someone are we able to understand them.

to adopt a child na di mo ka ano-ano is much more than unselfish love!
my Aunt for three consecutive days heared a baby's cry somewhere in the neighborhood. Out of nowhere, she searched for that cry, walang new born sa neighborhood o napasyal man lang.....some gravity pulled here towards the direction sa basurahan na nasa dulo ng garden niya.....and there she found this new born baby, puro kagat ng langgam, lamok, inipis na basta kaawa-awa talagang tignan yung bata.
now everything is history, nahanap ng Aunt at Uncle ko yung parents talaga nung bata, the baby girl was a product of rape. Yung very young mother mismo was raped by her own Uncle-the brother of his Father. Napakasuwerte nila sa bata dahil grasya talaga siya sa kanila since she came in to their lives positive vibes are coming in their way. The child's never been treated as an outsider, wherever they reside sa mundo dahil sa nature ng work ng Uncle ko kasama nila ang inampon nila. The miracle is, yung face nung bata fitted exactly like them na.

Unselfish love is expressed in service.
Hi jhunex:)
Nice one! Let me share, too.
Some think that the main way to serve God is to serve mankind (bato bato sa langit ang tamaan ay huwag magagalit).
Jesus taught that man's first duty is to God; his second, to man Matthew 22:34-40. When the Pharisees heard that he had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together. "then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said to him, You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart , with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself......."
God's commandments can be divided into two categories. The first one involves a person- to-God relationship. We might call these ritual or religious commandments; have no other gods, make no graven image, take not God's name in vain, eat the Lord supper, etc.. A violation of one of these is a sin directly and only against God, not against another man.
The second category involves both a person-to-God and a person -to-person relationship. These we might call moral or social commandment; honor parents, abstain from murder, adultery, theft, covetousness, tend the sick, etc.. Violating one of these is a sin against both God and man.
There are two main reasons why loving God is the "great and first commandment." First, all commandments, including "love your neighbor," come from God. Therefore, one cannot love God without loving people. However, one can love people without even believing in God! An atheist, for example, is or can be humane.
Second, since all commands come from God, every sin is against God. However, every sin is not against man.
One who loves God will keep both his religious and social statutes, excluding neither, nor reversing their order! God will not place a meaning upon a command that makes it contradict another. The Jews did this when they emphasized a religious command (give to God) and nullified a social command (honor parents; Mark 7:9-13). Conversely,, Acts 5:9 teaches that we may not press a social statute (obey magistrates) to the violation of a religious one (teach in Jesus' name).
Finally, Jesus said, "If you love Me, keep my commandments" (John 14:15). Clearly, love is not a substitute for obedience; it includes it. May we love man. But may we love God first, this is the great and first commandment.

I do believe too that the highest expression of true love is service among our fellowmen regardless of our differences in religion. color and nationality and etc. Kung may true love lang sana ang bawat isa siguro mapayapa ang mundo natin lalo na sa ating lupang hinirang, Pilipinas.
