Hello TF members,
There has been a number of issues in Timog Forum about the use of languages other than Tagalog or English. So we made the rules a little more detailed for the benefit of everyone.
But before we get into that, it is well to remember that Timog Forum is the freest online community of Filipinos in Japan. We don't discriminate based on geography or ethnic group. If you are a Pinoy who resides anywhere between the northern tip of Hokkaido and the southernmost island of Okinawa, you are free to join Timog Forum; there is no better place on the Internet where you can find a friendly Filipino community that can help you feel right at home in Japan.
We hope the guidelines below will help everyone decide which languages to use in Timog Forum.
1. General discussions should be in Pilipino or English. Japanese is used mainly in the Nihongo Discussions and all other Philippine languages (Bisaya, Ilocano, etc.) in the Personals section.
It is best to use a language that all Filipinos understand when discussing general topics that interest all Pinoys in Japan. But for people who like to talk in their native language, you are free to do so in the Personals section. There are a number of threads there already; please join the discussions and talk until the cows come home. For people who like to practise their Japanese, discussions in Japanese can be found in the Nihongo Discussions forum. Douzo, otsukai kudasai.
2. Talking off-topic and using a different language in a general discussions forum is not good. Please use the Private Messaging system instead if you want to talk to someone in your own native language.
We understand the sudden excitement of finding a kababayan when browsing a thread in Timog Forum. However, posting off-topic comments in a language that other people can't understand is not a particularly polite thing to do in a public forum like Timog. Please send a private message instead; your kababayan will appreciate your friendly gesture and the other posters in the thread will appreciate your thoughful consideration.
3. Don't make too many threads in the Personals section using your own native language; join in the discussions on another existing thread instead.
There is really no point in making too many threads in your native language in the Personals section. As we would like to get as many people to participate as possible, it is best to join an existing one than try to create several more. Newcomers will then have to trouble finding the right threads to post in.
We hope these guidelines will be helpful for everyone. We appreciate everyone's cooperation in making Timog Forum a welcome place for all Pinoys in Japan, no matter where their hometowns are in the Philippines or what language they use.
The fact that we have many languages in the Philippines should showcase our diversity as a country and shouldn't cause divisions in our community. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu.
