Right now, my daughter is working on her homework which is about business, the general concept behind a business, the effect on the economy etc. The homework is to think about putting up a business and having a product, how to sell and make profit out of it, what products will many people want and buy. They are even asked to together a paragraph or two about the business.

She is just in 4th grade elementary school!

Their school follows an American curriculum.
No wonder there are so many young entrepreneurs in the United States, and there are so many whose businesses became successful internationally. And it also explains why most of them are business oriented, which generally is good.

Cant help but wish that one of the goals of our education system is the same - make the students be business aware.. Putting up businesses requires lots of imaginations, and obviously the young ones are stronger at that aspect and have more energy to spend.

I came from average elementary and high schools in the Phil, I do not remember encountering 'business' as a topic in school. Even in college we have a very very thin touch on business- although it has a 'partial' explanation - I attended an engineering school.
Except for a few selected schools in some major cities of the Phil where sons and daughters of our leading business people go, I guess the average and even above average schools do not touch business topic..... Which explains why our business orientation is low.

Nice thoughts Sir!!!

If I'm not mistaken, we took up "Entrepreneurship" when I was in High School, just a brief part under the subject "Technology and Home Economics". A separate subject for "Business" alone would mean a lot. It will improve the business sense of our kids and at the same time, encourage them to put up their own business.

How I wish I should have known better. Instead of drawing the face of my teacher when we were discussing entrepreneurship, I should have paid more attention to the subject being discussed. If I concentrated and studied the subject well, I could be running my own business now instead of being a Houseboy .:(

Good thing!
But I wish they would teach business based on how to serve and not only profit oriented. Im not saying profit to be off the topic, but as part of the topic. Most Pinoy I think now believes, "to it gain justify all means". Also to teach/promote profit sharing and good employee welfare as part of main subject.

I guess one big reason the whole country is not progressing, its because of, not good money circulation and division. People's idea of business is monopoly and destroying competition. Few has the idea of support and proper networking as contribution to others. Considering that if others succeed, it follows that all shall also gain prosperity as a whole.

Just a thought.

...an Advance school indeed.....how I wish every school is like that....
years ago, I watched a documentary about elementary students in Japan......
a certain school provides an annual activity...wherein; Students portray different Roles in the society..... there are cashiers in a convenient store, policeman, photographer, editor of a newspaper ,traffic enforcer, market vendor,..etc....In this kind of activity; in a way, young students will have an idea on what career to pursue in the future.....:) but that kind of school activity is okane kakaru..
