Japan's medical insurance system does not have coverage abroad so I do not think a reimbursement is possible at all. There are private international healthcare providers though, that have extensive networks of medical institutions abroad. Depending on the region, they sometimes allow reimbursements in cases where there are no local medical affiliates.

like v_wrangler said, japanese hoken (kenkou hoken) doesnt allowed you to reimbursed all your money spent on medicine abroad. but if you have some other form of hoken for example, seimei hoken or shougai hoken, this kind of insurances has it services for this. better to double check the application form when you applied for it, or better to inquire on their offices.

It seems possible under extreme cases, you might be better off asking your employer about it.

...from Japan's Social Insurance Agency (http://www.sia.go.jp/e/ehi.html#cov):

Medical Care Expenses / Dependents Medical Care Expenses

If you/your dependents can not help but have to receive medical treatment at non-insurance hospitals/clinics due to unavoidable reasons or difficulties, you can receive the Medical Care Expenses.

Benefit Amount

The designated total of standard medical care expenses, not the actual cost you paid to the non-insurance hospital, less your cost-sharing.

How to Claim Your Benefit

To claim your benefit, you need to file the “Application for Medical Care Expenses” (RYOYOHI SHINSEISHO) together with the receipt of itemized medical costs, to the Social Insurance Office (including one in a Social Insurance Bureau) within 2 years from the next day that you paid the medical costs.

I have experienced reimbursing medical fee from the Philippines using shakai hoken (from my company) and private hoken company. To be sure just ask your insurance company about necessary paper and the reimbursement limit. From then you could calculate which is better for you. Well, if you have both shakai hoken and private hoken you'll have an extra money in the end. :-)
