these are some pointers i noticed about JLPT when i took it before. this is applicable to level 1 & 2. i never took level 3, but i guess it is almost the same with level 2. please read it and hoping that it will help those who will take the examination this year.

(1) Kanji Reading
in this section, walang masyadong tip na maiiapply here. i think you need to know the reading and correct writing of every kanji that are included in every level. just remember the following points.

(a) choices of kanji given in the questions particularly in the sentence mostly have the same reading. if you dont know exactly the reading or writing, try to read and understand the sentence. lalo na ang kanji na maraming reading.

(b) if you dont know exactly the correct equivalent kanji of a given word problem, paganahin mo ang imagination mo. what good about kanji is, kahit di mo alam ang meaning ng word, but you know the meaning of every part of kanji, magkakaron ka ng idea kahit paano. actually i experienced this one, when i took the level 2 examination before. the problem word is taki(waterfalls). i never see the kanji of this word before i took the examination. the choices also is very hard. i only noticed that one kanji in the choices have a kanji of water in the left side. since alam ko na ang taki eh waterfalls, and there is water on it, and since yong iba ay walang nakalagay na water i select that one and i got it right. so pag di mo alam talaga ang answer, paganahin mo ang imagination mo or use trial and error or elimination method.

(2) Reading Comprehension (DOkkai)
in this section, i think this is the place where you can get a high score pag tama ang mga sagot mo at malaking minus naman pag nagkamali ka. these are my one point lesson in this section.

(a)try to answer first the reading comprehension(dokkai ) part before vocabulary part(moji goi), because moji goi will only give you one point for every correct answer. but dokkai give you 3 or 5 points for every question.

(b)sa dokkai, every problem ay magkakaiba kung ilang questions ang nakalagay. so, my technique here is, i choose first those problem na maraming questions. para pag natapos basahin yong problem at naintindihan mo maigi marami ka kaagad questions na masasagot. meaning it will give you a high points.

(c)you cannot fully understand the problem in dokkai in one reading only, you must read it twice or thrice. at third time at di mo pa rin naintindihan, leave it first at saka mo na lang balikan. pag di mo iniwanan yon, you will lost lots of time.

(d)you can also read the problem with a short passage only, because it means the problem is easy also.

(e)in dokkai passage, you will notice an asterisk mark(*), this mean that there is a special explanation for the word described. read it first before going to the whole passage to understand the connection of that word to the whole passage.

(f)in dokkai examination, there is at least one problem wherein the contents are the latest news here in japan. news that was been an issue here in japan. particularly a social or politics news. try to read newspaper or watch the news in tv now para may background ka when that problem was included

(g)in dokkai also, there is always a problem that uses graphs. you must know also how to read it. try to review how to read bar graph, pie graph or the 7 types of graphs uses in quality control. it will help you a lot to solve the problem. because some question there just asking what is the biggest amount or what date it occurs, something like that are written on the graph.

(h) try to check you answer only, after you finish answering the moji goi section and if you have still time remaining.

(3) Vocabulary(Moji Goi)
in this section, the points you can get for every correct answer is only one point i think. so do this part at the end after answering the dokkai. the following are the one point lesson i can give.

(a) there is always two or three problems pertaining to polite words like itadakimasu, sashiagemasu, haiken shimasu, something like that. you must identify their difference thoroughly to answer it easy.

(b) there are also a 2 or 3 problems about katakana words. you must also know its meaning. but i think this is very easy kasi pag alam mo ang equivalent words ng katakana words na yon sa english eh alam mo agad ang meaning. try to review also those katakana words that are recently seen in the news or become an issue and gain social impact like coolbiz, etc.

(c) some problems about idioms also are given here. try to review it all. wala kong mabibigay na tip here sa problem na to. you must review it all para alam mo ang isasagot mo. kung di mo talaga alam, well tsambahan mo na lang. but try to answer it by elimination.

(d) problems concerning keiyoushi(adjectives ) also are given. try to review it especially those adjectives with almost the same meaning.

(4) Hearing Comprehension(Chouka i)
this is the last part of the examination where all of you will be answering it at the same time.
below is my one point lesson about this part.

(a) listen thoroughly to the passage. concentrate and dont let other thing bother your mind.

(b) for every problem, you must understand what is being ask. after you hear it. try to concentrate on the correct answer. leave the entire conversation and wait for the choices to be given.

(c) before the next question will be started, be sure that you already answer the previous question on your answer sheet. then reset your mind for the next question.

(d) if you didnt get the previous question and never understand it, leave it that way and concentrate to the next question. pag di mo to ginawa, pati yong next question eh di mo rin maiintindihan. meaning magiging 2 ang doubtful answer mo. its a domino effect.

(5) During Examination
these are some pointers that you must give value also during the examination.

(a)To save time, try to answer dokkai, moji goi, and kanji reading in this order.

(b) Dont put your answer on the mark sheet everytime you know the answer(except choukai) on each problem. You will spend lot of time on doing it. instead, try to mark the choices that you think is right on the questionaire first, then transfer it on the mark sheet when you finish all or maybe when 10 or 20 minutes left only at the same time.

(c) in moji goi and kanji reading, try to answer first all questions that you know exactly the correct answer. mark those questions that you dont know the exact answer or doubtful about it. then balikan mo na lang after you finish at the end. this way, mababudget mo ang time mo maigi.

(d) have extra time to review your answer on dokkai, moji goi and kanji reading.

(e) have extra time to check your answer on the mark sheet also. isang pagkakamali mo lang sa order ng answer mo, lahat damay na at siguradong bagsak ka po.

(f) stay cool on the examination. wag kang mag doki doki po. para makapag concentrate ka ng maigi.

(6) Preparation
these are some points that you must do till the day before the examination.

(a) if you dont know exactly the place where you will take the examination, have time to check it by going it there. check also the better way to get there. by car, train or bicycle. para pag meron mang nangyari eh prepare ka.

(b) prepare all things that you will bring like permit, pen and pencil, eraser, relo, pantasa po ng lapis and some identification mo po. be sure to turn off your cellphone.

(c) sleep well, wake up early and eat your breakfast.

thats all. hope this pointers will help you on your coming examination. ganbatte kudasai.
goodluck!:)

good morning po sa lahat.....eto po sa akin is opinion lang po... hindi ko alam kung tama ba to na reason para kailangan ng JPLT... if andito po kayo sa japan ang kadalasan na nagiging requirements pag nag hahanap ng trabaho is kung anong level ng JPLT na hawak mo...for example for technical job at office work parang kadalasan na hinahanap is level 1 or 2... except na lang po kung dito na kayo sa japan nag junior high, senior high at nag college e hindi nyo na po kailangan yang JPLT.

@striver

boss sana nabasa ko ito bago nag take.. malaking tulong sana... sa ngayon kasi is maski wala pa ang result is alam ko na ang resulta ng exam ko.. hehehehe :D better luck next year :D

@wes. hey bro! nag take ka pala ng JPLT. Nag exam din kasi ako. At I dont know if you noticed that 80% are Chinese. Sa room ko ay mag isa lang ako na Filipino. At kahit isang kababayan wala akong nakilala. Nakakalungkot di ba?!

One way or the other, bilang mga foriegners dito sa Japan I think we have the obligation to learn the Japanese language. At kung gusto nating mag improve o umangat yung mga klase ng trabaho na mapapasukan natin din dapat talagang mag aral ng Nihongo. At isa sa mga sukatan dito ung JPLT.
And din we need to encourage yung mga ibang Filipino na mag aral at kumuha din ng JPLT para mas sa mataas na antas ng oppurtunity. Sa paghahanap man ng trabaho o sa pang araw araw na pamumuhay dito sa Japan.

Hello po!

Question?

Paano po ba ang procedure bago ka makapag take ng JLPT. Required po ba na umattend muna ng formal classes ng nihonggo lesson from elementary level bago makapag take ng level 4...upto succeeding levels, or ok lang kahit self study lang at walang recomendation ng kahit na anong institution/school ....sorry po di ko pa masyadong maintindihan eh.
Thank you..

Hullo mikkie! :)
Hindi mo na kailangan ng formal schooling. Kung gusto mong kumaha ng exam makakapagregister ka. Ok ang self-study syempre, so please try it next time. Of course kung makakaattend ka ng mga classes mas matututo ka sa palagay ko. Goodluck and keep studying. :)

Yeah tama si dcat. Pwede self study or mag aral sa Nihongo class.JPLT ay once a year lang. Usually first week of December. Pwede mong mabili ang application form sa maraming lugar like bookstores. At hindi lang sa Japan ang test centers, meron din sa Pinas at ibang lugar sa Asya.I search mo sa internet yung mga test centers na malapit sa lugar mo.May mga reviewers na available din sa bawat level.Goodluck

@Wes

Alam mo ba yung Nagoya International Center? Kung gusto mo ng mga reviewers may available doon sa 3rd floor library.Magpa member ka lang at pwede mong iuwi for 2 weeks. May mga volunteers din na wiling mag help if you want I can introduce a good friend. Teacher sya ng Nihongo class.
Meron din palang Nihongo class dun. May mga levels depende sa gusto mong pasukan. Mura lang ang tuition fee.Every Sunday 1 1/2 hours for 10 sessions.
http://www.nic-nihongonokai.info/en_index.php Ang application is on January 7, 2007 at 11:00pm start ng class is January 14, 2007. Maaga ka lang kung gusto mong mag enroll kasi maraming tao.

Ok ang self-study syempre, so please try it next time. Of course kung makakaattend ka ng mga classes mas matututo ka sa palagay ko.I also agree with dcat. A friend of mine passed the 1-kyuu (highest level) without going to school - self-study lang lahat, considering busy din lagi yun sa trabaho. Bale kumuha muna siya ng 2-kyuu - pasado. Siguro 6 years na siya noon sa Japan. Tapos 2 years later 1-kyuu naman, pasado ulit. :)

Nasa hilig + determinasyon lang talaga yan. Kailangang meron ka pareho. If you lack one, you'll have a hard time learning. Good luck sa mga nagpaplanong kumuha next year. :) (kumuha din ako ulit last dec. 3 just to check my present level...kinakalawang na kasi :p)

Nag pa register na rin ako sa nihongo class na kina-conduct ng shaksyou..for free na mag i-start by early next year...and yung mga online tutorials din is another big help..pati na rin ang mga textbooks na nabili ko bookstore... ang kailangan ko na lang i-improve ay yung sinabi ni DAX-san...HILIG AT DETERMINASYON......i think ito ang kulang sa akin:D Try ko rin next year...
