mainichi Japanese planners revealed the design of a huge broadcast tower that is set to become the world's tallest structure upon completion in 2011. Dubbed the "New Tokyo Tower," it will stand 610 meters tall and will claim the title from the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada, which is currently the world's tallest structure at 553 meters, according to Tobu Railway Co., which has provided land for the project. Yes, I read the news, too.

I searched the net a bit more.
The new tower will be called not New Tokyo Tower, but (to the delight of its residence), Sumida Tower.

The tower stands 610 meters tall.
Is this height really necessary?
The purpose is to air the digital TV, not competing with other towers.
I guess they just wanted to be the world’s tallest.
They wanted to reach the 600s.

As for the figures, you may know that Tokyo Tower stands 333 meters tall.
It’s easy to remember.
It they double the figure, it becomes, 666 meters, then it shall be called an Omen Tower.
That’s why they ended up 610. (Biro lang.)

When will this competition end?
I can’t help thinking the story of Tower of Babel.
Time shall come the wrath of God will destroy towers.

You may wonder how come making such a tall thing is such a fuss.
As if making it taller and bigger is a greater achievement.
They are spending a lot of money, which, if used otherwise, would help a lot of poor people.

I think the answer lies in the symbolism.

Psychologically and Cultural Anthropologically speaking, any such thing is the symbol of the male organ.
The bigger, the better is the hidden agenda.
Totempol, Grand Father’s Clock, Skyscrapers, etc.

Tokyo Tower is also such a thing.
However, that the initials (acronym) of Tokyo Tower sounds like a Tagalog word is, of course, a mere coincidence.:D
