GMA basically did the unthinkable. PAGASA gave the go signal dahil hindi naman tatama at kalakasan yung bagyo. Pero kinansela pa rin at dinahilan ang bagyo. Speculation is high that GMA didn't want to be embarassed because of huge protests about CONASS and favored again her political survival over the possible embarassment of the country.

I believe Minister Amari has the right to complain and that our government deserves it. Dagdag minus points na naman para sa Pinas, imbes maging plus...

...but i don't think solong desisyon ni GMA ito. i'm sure merong konsultasyon at agreement na nangyari among leaders of participating nations. does GMA have the absolute say, kasi nagkataon Pinas ang host nation? how about the ASEAN officials, the Secretary-General of ASEAN? pag sa tingin nila hindi makabuluhan ang desisyon ni GMA, hindi ba nila pwede i-override ito?

People power, terrorist attacks, typhoon threats were not the reason for cancelling the ASEAN Summit in my own opinion... It was the Overwhelming Protest Rallies of different sectors in the society against the CON ASS and CON CON, na isinusulong ng majority blocs sa congress lead by De venecia.... It's better for Pres. Arroyo to cancel the said summit than to receive embarassment from International Communities especially that her administration is claiming that under her authority, economic situation of the Philippines became stable.....

What should be the reactions of ASEAN leaders if they will see left and right protests against the Arroyo administration? Do they still continue to invests or not in the Philippines?

Now, the Arroyo government had already cancelled the summit. What would be the reaction of ASEAN leaders? It is another problem of Pres. Arroyo on how to convince different leaders of the ASEAN.......especial ly the business sector....

Philippines Prepares to Host Rescheduled Asean Summit in Jan (Yahoo Asia News)

Malaya said as of now, its all systems go for the proposed dates of the ASEAN Summit on January 10 to 14, 2007.

Although there is no official announcement from DFA yet, some officials from the department has noted that Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has expressed interest in attending the summit.

Ambassador Marciano Paynor, the (supposedly december summit) cancellation was not ordered by the Presidential Office but it was decided after consultations with other provincial governments, foreign independents storm tracking system and the country's weather bureau.

DFA Assistant Secretary Domingo Lucenario, member of the Philippine national organizing committee for the summit, has insisted that the recent typhoon Seniang (internationally known as Utor) was the major reason for the postponement of the meetings of the 16 leaders from Southeast Asia and their dialogue partners.
