View Full Version : A Dictionary of Basic Japanese Grammar
This is one of the most useful grammar books for those starting to study Japanese. This is a small but thick book, convenient to carry around and read in trains or buses when you're always on the move. (It's about the same size as the Kanji Learner's Dictionary (http://www.timog.com/forum/showthread.php?t=162 ).)

The main entries are arranged in alphabetical order and most of the basic grammatical expressions from ageru and amari to yori and zutsu are covered. The book is fairly exhaustive (the word no, for example, has 4 entries.) Each entry has a detailed explanation of usage, sentence formation and many examples and notes.
As if that isn't enough, there is also a very useful "Grammatical Terms" and "Characteristics of Japanese Grammar" just before the main entries and Appendices with verb conjugations, explanations of counters, etc. This is very practical book that will benefit both beginners and long-time students wishing to review their Nihongo grammar.
I bought this book about 10 years ago and has read it from cover to cover although I often reread parts of it to clarify some grammatical expressions that are unclear. Although the bookbinding feels solid, maybe because of extensive use over the years, the book has split down the middle. Still very useful though.

At 2,890 yen it is cheaper than many games for the Playstation 3 and is a good investment.

I love this book ^_^ I bought this together with A Dictionary of Intermediate Japanese Grammar. I like how it is easy to look up sentence patterns using these two books.

natsukashii....:)
hey guys, i've got one up for grabs. just pay for shipping.
bought it 8 years ago, so mejo yellowish na,... but still very sturdy and well-kept.
or better yet, if you have business-related books you don't need anymore ("investing how-to" or "stocks and bonds" would be ideal), we can barter.
for those interested, PM me. :)

Meron kayang binebentang ganyan sa Pilipinas?
Comprehensive na ba yan? Tipong abot sa JLPT level 1? Meron na kasi akong Minna No Nihongo books 1&2 (hanggang level3 lang), hindi kaya redundant lang kung bumili ako nyan?

This is comprehensive, but not enought for level 1...or even 2, in my opinion. for Level 1, your best bet is still Kanzen Master.
