yahooI've just read this news from Yahoo (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070107/ap_on_he_me/dr__jacinto_s_choice ). A top doctor from the Philippines went to US to work as a nurse. Well, my batchmate who also top the medical exam in the Phil. went to US as nurse. I don't know how to react to this.....is it really a brain hemorrahage? :(

Where is nationailism when the very country you want to serve cannot serve your own needs? Pera lang ang katapat. Mahirap maglingkod kung gutom ang naglilingkod. I do not blame Mr. Jacinto for making the decision to move.

A lot of people can afford to be idealists in college, but when the realities of life hit you, when you have to take care of your family or worry about your children's education, you have to go where the opportunity is. I think he made the right decision. (Otherwise, why are we in Japan?) It's sad of course but is there any other option?

I think it's not only realities in life, my batchmate (top doc) was a rich kid and was working in Makati Med as an elite doc. I think they are trying to use nursing as a stepping stone to make a doctoral career in the US.

can't blame him...new grads in PI either end up in the call center or in a minimum wage job. if one has an opportunity to work abroad, he would most likely grab it.

actually the gov't knows this. but the politicians only cared bout their own pockets. nevermind that the whole population is sufferin.

:D

"personal choice"

Sana samahan din ng responsibility para balance. Ika ng kay spider man "With great power must also come great responsibility".

Haaayy... Nakakalungkot talaga no?

Then after some time, it would be better if that person would go back to the Philippines. At least, win-win situation di ba? Natulungan pa natin yung bansa natin.

If you can not find the job that you want in your own country, then leave.

If you can not find a job that would allow you to send your kids to school then go somewhere else until you find one.

Someone in that country might benefit as more jobs will be available to them since one less eligible worker.

Senator Pimentel is asking doctors to stay in the country. The lawmakers want to create laws that force doctors and nurses to stay put. Shouldn't they be asking themselves first what THEY THEMSELVES have done for the country aside from plundering the public coffers and creating political dynasties? They've turned things into such a mess it's become untenable for many decent people to continue living in the Philippines.

Our politicians are circumventing the law (which aims to curb abuse of power by setting limits on the number of successive terms) by temporarily ceding their posts to their wives or children, then coming back in a couple of years when they are again "eligible". Watch out for nepotists this coming election - things are so brazenly sickening it's not funny anymore.

If any law should be created, it's one that bans all public officials and elected officials as well as military officers above a certain rank - in short, those who are in a position to rapaciously steal money from the government - and their relatives to the second degreee from EVER leaving the Philippines beyond a couple of weeks. By preventing these people from being able to immigrate, maybe they will stop stealing money to stash away in Swiss bank accounts or American real estate.

"Patriotic" Pinoys will surely bash me for this comment, but: has our Filipino citizenship really helped us? Let's throw away false pride and look at things objectively: many Pinoys succeed abroad DESPITE (and not because of) their citizenship. If they were holding US or EU or Japanese or other Asian passports, they would succeed EVEN MORE. How many of our politicians have given this truth even some thought, in between their petty squabbles and massive stealing?
